new to the flock
Okay Trix and I were talking this morning about our next Trip over and what would be on the agenda. The topic of Game Fairs came up and that we would both like to attend one or two this time over....oh and LB Trix is now really pushing for the 2 trip option..... So which are the best ones for England, Wale, and Scotland? and when do they take place? Also 2 years ago we held a Training Day for Owners and Dogs is there interest in having another one of these? Axe
The CLA has got to be in there somewhere check out the website. http://www.gamefair.co.uk/
sandersj89
The CLA Game Fair is by far the biggest of the annual shows, I can happily spend 3 days there if allowed. There are also plenty of others such as the Midland, Chatsworth, Welsh Game Fair, Kent Game Fair, BASC Scotland Country Fair, etc. Then there are loads of County Shows that maybe of interest, the Royal is the biggest but these tend to be more focused on agriculture rather than shooting/fishing/hunting. Have a google or maybe look on the BASC website to see where they will be during the summer months. Jerry
dazza
Northern Ireland one in May if your interested?
Dunkield
As Axe says the CLA is the daddy of them all, there are plenty of smaller more regoinal ones but this is the big one. Unfortunatley for us Southerners it is oop north this year They tend to be in the Summer months NTTF, the first one I know if is the West Country Fair in March, the last bigish one is the Midland Game Fair which is the third weekend in September. Henry D can tell you about the Scotttish one, that is in Scone if I remember correctly not far from where he lives? One of the taffs can fill in the blanks on the Welsh fairs. Suffolk shooter
Also 2 years ago we held a Training Day for Owners and Dogs is there interest in having another one of these? NTTF I heard about this from Martin Cavie, and it sounded really good, I'm up for it dependant on where it is, if only to get the dog out (Part trained, badly behaved and that's just me ) SS

Catamong
I'm sure NTTF will be truly overwhelmed by the experience of a UK Game Fair, I've done them all over the years, apart from the ones too far oop North, and I'm sure that he's hoping for a hassle free day out, with a reasonable entry fee, good wholesome cheap food, helpful Stewards, toilets that you'd be more than happy to spend a half hour in, a quick blast at the Sporting Clays stand, and a rapid exit from the fair at 6pm. And not forgetting the many bargains to be had from the traders we all associate with Field Sports, of course it's the PVCU Conservatory and Life Insurance salesmen. Perhaps I'm getting cynical, but most Game Fairs are a good example of rip off Britain at it's very best. Cat.
SNAKEBITE
The first one I do in the season is the Kent Gamefair at the showground. Last year was a little disapointing as 1) there was nothing I actually needed 2) it was not the best of shows to keep the wife interested and 3) The blooming dog showed me up in the terrier racing by bunking off to play with the cow This year I will probably go on my own and be able to do what I want when I want! Parham in West Sussex is another good one.............
Dunkield
I have tried over the years: With the wife With the wife and son With the wife and son and dog Having learned the hard way, I now go with mates only. . . And Cat is right they rip you off something rotten for food etc

Parham in West Sussex is another good one............. Kent last year was more like a chavs day out at a bric-a-brac market. How they had the nerve to call it a Game Fair is beyond me! I will never return to that one! :( Parham on the other hand has always been a very good show indeed. Especially for a smaller event. Big surprise was the all new Game Fair at the Ardingly Showground last year. Thats gets a thumbs up for a good day our for the family too. Big surprise was the all new Game Fair at the Ardingly Showground last year. Thats gets a thumbs up for a good day our for the family too. Not tried the Parham one, must look that up. Did the Autumn show at Ardingly this year and it was good, spent a lot of time ion the show ground wagtching the dog handling displays and my son ended up in the ring helping with the duck/dog display. The images were taken by a local press photographer and he has appeared in a local paper and may appear on the South of England Agricultural Assoc web site as well! He had a great laugh in the ring and got a free flat cap for his efforts! It was also an expensive day as bought myself a set of Aigle Parcours Iso boots and kitted the boy out in wax jacket and commo kit for beating. Also picked up a nice como ex army bergan for shooting kit. Jerry
Dunkield
Quality THAT is what Game Fairs should be all about, not people selling car wax with the red mini bonnet on there stall or a glorified craft fair! Maybe we should list the ones we would recommend and the reasons why?
SNAKEBITE
Any fair that offers cheap quality kit is fine by me. However whilst it should not be a glorified craft fair it is nice to have a few different stalls to break it up and maybe keep the wife/kids happy. A balanced day out with the family. Oh and food vendors that don't rip you off with poor quality poop at high prices would be nice as well.
Catamong
I'm not sure if NTTF has read these posts, but let's hope he brings plenty of UK £'s, 'cos he'll be relieved of plenty of them throughout the day, probably far more than he envisaged, also Valium would be a good idea to calm the nerves of the other family members who are likely to reach breaking point many times during the day..!! new to the flock
Not to worry NTTF is reading these and he is well aware of the prices at these types of events. As for the other half being bored or uninterested in the going ons of the day....... Trix can hold her own in the sporting field or fishing boat or horse arena, and is as far from a shopping girly girl as you would want to get NTTF Next question for those of you that have attented lots of these: If you could only attend one this year which one would it be? July = CLA September = Midland Cheers AndyCM  But, it would depend on what you want to see/do NTTF. The first time I went to the Midland it was 60/40 in favour of fishing, now it is 90/10 in favour of shooting. If, like me, you like a bit of fishing action to break up the shooting stuff the CLA is the only one in England - it is huge and may be worth staying over to allow a second day to do and see all the stuff. Some of the displays overlap so if you want to catch them all, you will need a second day or run from one to the other!
