kyska
Silly question, I know nadder about electrics, I need to replace the door bell button, do I need to turn the trips off to re wire it, or is it safe to just do it. It's seems so innocuous, two tiny wires, but then, the doorbell may get the last laugh and blow my face off?
fruity
If its like ours its 240v to a tranformer by the door/hallway then 12v to the button hence small wiring , i would just isolate the transformer just to be safe imho

kyska
Would you jump in front of a bus if you thought the brakes were ok? Why are you patronising me? I'm a nurse, not an electrician, hence the question. Jeeze. Thanks everyone else, I'll just turn the power off and have a bash. jingles
Always best to isolate it if you're unsure.

northeastshooter
Isolate it and take all jewellery off I witnessed a woman at work short a metal wrist watch on a 24v dc system it just melted into her wrist and still has the scars 5years later so better safe than sorry
sparky mick
isolate it. i once worked on a house renovation where the owner HAD wired the doorbell to the mains. bell had blown but wiring and button still live. nice if you're stood on the front step in the*********** rain! whitey10765666
Ive allways tested a battery on tongue still do, in my teens i use to mess about with old radiograms and to find out if power was coming in i would touch the terminals inside, had plenty of kicks, made a testor in the end with wire and bulb, to think how dull i was then dew dew allways best to be safe these days tho got plenty of testers now.
