Cranfield
I would suggest some flocked shell decoys, probably at least 12 to start. Then, depending on your budget, add a rotary and a flapper.
Dr D
Will these fit over half shells and still work?
Lg1
Try making a post for second hand gear buddy, you tend to see quite a few threads were lads are clearing out the shed... You may just get what you need to get back going.. Good luck-

lksopener
I'd say a magnet and 12 half shells will be fine mate. I'd recommend AA decoys they are cheap and very good. Don't worry about a hide, make a natural one in a hedge, woodland or ditch that's around you.

Try building a natural hide in the middle of a bare field. not likely to happen.
lksopener
I've rarely struggled to be fair but appreciate certain fields may require additional materials. Don't waste your money on poles though I and cut some hazels.
NickB65
Skip the magent and get more decoys and a bouncer - used mine three times and just scares them away - I use FUDS and must admit they are good.

With respect Nick, just because you haven't had any luck using a magnet, doesn't mean others will fare the same. Three outings with a magnet is hardly a real trial. NickB65
With respect Nick, just because you haven't had any luck using a magnet, doesn't mean others will fare the same. Three outings with a magnet is hardly a real trial. The person I brought it off had tried it and found it scared more off than it brought it, others on this forum have also found the same. I take the magnet with me every time but the three times I have set it up it draws them in to a point then they veer off..... True some people swear by them but I can only comment on my findings. I find decoys more than enough to lure them in...... I will still keep trying it in different conditions and times of year until either it fails every time or I found a circumstance it works in. Lg1
I had problems like that with my first ever rotary, thing is I picked the biggest in the shop... It had 4 arms and looked like a chinook taking off... To top it of I actually bought a waggon battery to run it lmao.. God I was green!!! Took two of us to carry the battery alone haha... We were that keen tho we marched it over them fields... These days a nice small rotary and dry cell...
lksopener
Don't be put off a magnet, it doesn't scare birds off. Or I've yet to see it do that here. Ive tried without it thinking it would save carrying kit and I won't be doing so again.
chesterse
Can't beat 6 to 12 dead birds on cradles for starters!
