Have had some cracking sport on rape parks with differing covers of snow Yes, so have I, back in the late 70's, but things change over time, and I'm afraid Aberdeenshire is a long way from the effluent South where our birds have completely different feeding habits, but hey.....you are more than welcome to come down South and shoot on my patch as soon as we get any snow cover... I guarantee you'll be the only out that day, the locals know better and they won't be silly enough to waste their time on a fools errand... Cat. Wont be travelling doon fella,plenty to shoot here with or without snow.Its just better to counter your first post as nay everyone on here are from the deep South and maybe thought your observation was UK wide,instead of locally to yourself.The fools up here are the ones that dont go shooting pigeons in the snow as they mistakenly think they will never decoy due to snow blindness.. The birds get snow blind, as a result they often ignore the decoys and if the snow is thick enough they simply sod off elsewhere or sit in the hedgerows eating Ivy berries. Cat. Partly true Cat, but I want cold to get them over from the continent and on the rape, some snow to cover much of the crop but not the bits where my hide is........ Yes,............... it's all a bit of a Winter Wonderland fairy tale,...........snow on the ground and the Woodies hell bent on coming into the deeks, but come what may, sadly I'm afraid in Herts the reality is somewhat different. I'll tell you what, as soon as we get snow cover, you PM me, then you can come on down to my patch, I've several thousand acres or rape to shoot over, I'll sit and watch from the comfort of my car whilst you shoot, hopefully you'll prove me wrong, and we'll both stagger back through the snow drifts with sack fulls of birds..?? plumberman Posted January 3, 2014 Report Share Posted January 3, 2014 Where are all the pigeons ? all winter we have seen hardly any feeding on the rape, last year the farmers had a full time job keeping them off, many rape crops where ruined by pigeons.Have they moved elsewhere in the country the fens in the Downham Market area are pigeon free with acres and acres of rape.
