DIY adjustable stock extension

I bought an old Lanber a couple of years ago, it was cheap but it's rough and ready. The main drawback was the stock was very short, 12 3/4" LOP, however I did manage to get a 1" rubber pad with it, still short at 13 3/4" total LOP.

I finally managed to do something about it, this is MK1 prototype and isn't finished yet. Also I haven't shot with it since doing it.

I cut out a steel plate the same size as the pad and drilled a hole where each hole in the pad is. I then drilled out the rubber pad and cut a slot in the head of two m8 80mm bolts, these pressed into the pad and then you can use a flat head to screw them in or out. Using the original screw holes in the stock I drilled a 12.5mm hole for each bolt. Then using a bolt screwed onto the nut I bashed a nut into each of the holes, I went about 15mm deep and then pulled the nut back out, squared the slots with a chisel to follow the nut and then bashed them in about 25mm. Then press another nut in at the surface of the butt, so there is two nuts in the stock to keep it central. Screw the bolts into the stock to the desired length and Roberts your mother's brother.

The nuts are a pretty tight fit and the pad it quite squishy so I don't think the recoil will push the nuts further in, if it does I will have to secure the bolts to another plate to cover the end of the stock.

I think I will put another plate or thin bit of wood over the end of the stock and then wooden tubes over the bolts to tidy it up.

I have set the LOP to 15" and this seems to mount much nicer and a better sight down the rib, I'm 6'3" so a longer stock is needed. As I said I haven't shot it yet so the proof is in the pudding.

I can take it all out and screw the pad of as before and you would never know, it's a cheep gun so doesn't really matter if it doesn't work.

No not tried shooting it yet in it's finished state. I did have a go when it was in mk1 stage, defiantly shoots better now, but seems to mount even better in mk2 version. I've got a couple of keepers days coming up so I'll give it a proper test then. Pretty easy to do and didn't take very long so quite pleased really, best of all didn't cost a bean.

the extension tubes are drilled and threaded and secured by grub screw in side of plates ,the grub screws on stock plate provide the extension/retraction into stock.the mk2 im planning will have 10 mm rod drilled and threaded and secured with bolt from behind rubber butt plate, the rods are also going to be dimpled to aid grub screw lock on but is not currently a problem
