Gen 1 night vision test

I picked up a Bresser night vision monocular today and I am pretty pleased with the way it works. I've taken some pictures with my phone, which obviously don't look as good as it does with the naked eye, but it gives an idea.

I will need a diffuser for my cheapo laser as even at the widest setting it is too bright for the ranges I will use it at.

This tree is 300 yards from my garden and the laser is at its widest:post-20802-0-79569600-1389304822_thumb.jpg

And again with a tighter beam:post-20802-0-80652300-1389304960_thumb.jpg

This bush is 60 yards and the laser is wide open: post-20802-0-40533900-1389304930_thumb.jpg

I know this isn't a patch on more advanced systems but for £75 I'm very happy. I now just need a dim red dot designator to give me a POI - oh, and another rifle.

My set up is as pictured above, but it is not mounted behind any scope; the monocular is just used as a monocular on the set back mount so it comes to your eye nicely.

So you have the Bresser 5x50 as a view piece on a mount. Infront of the bresser in low mounts is a TDL-3 laser target designator (http://www.rusmilitary.com/html/laser_sights.htm) which on its lowest setting is invisible to the naked eye at range ( its adjustable ) shows up on the bresser NV monocular without flairing to the size of a dinner plate like cheap lasers not designed for this purpose. It is not to expensive, and it zero's really easily.

I will get some pictures of my set up, and try and use the video output to get some good images of it through the Bresser.

Only difference between mine and yours is that my bresser a 5x50 is viewed through a digital screen, and the display is black/ white, through the view piece you can identify well beyond 100 yards with the on board ir, and have a good usable range up to 50 yards. I imagine with an IR illuminator you could extend this range a bit. I cobbles the whole thing together for about £150 quid, But i had the hang back mount in a drawer for about a year along with the bresser, and once i put those two together, i just needed an aim point, i thought about a lot of things but the laser was the only affordable way to go.

Thanks for the link to the variable laser sight, I was going to put a cheaper laser on it but with neutral density filters in front to cut the output. I have a Sony cam as an add on at the moment but I don't like the shooting position so the plan was the same as what you have done; monocular, illuminator and dot sight. With the illuminator focussed in the only limiting factor on range is atmospheric humidity as I can easily see out past 300 yards. I just need a cheap pcp to fix it to now.
