sandspider
Hi all Just wondering if any Vitara owners can enlighten me. I've got a Jimny, and it's great! However, it does have a couple of little niggles - the 4wd system is basic, and can't be used on dry solid roads. (The wheels need to be able to move independently to avoid transmission wind up). Also, the Jimny isn't good for wading as the hub seals are dust seals rather than water seals, so the hubs fill up with water when you wade and it doesn't come out! Neither of these things are the end of the world, but I was just wondering whether the Vitara has the same niggles, or whether the 4wd system is cleverer, and the hubs are better designed / sealed? I did try Google, but couldn't get a definite answer. Thanks.

four-wheel-drive
I think that most older 4x4s tend to be part time four wheel drive unless you go for something like a nisson or honda or something like that but then they do not tend to have low/high gears as for vitaras they use the same system as the jimny. stubby
have a 2ltr vitara, although only drive the freelander at the moment, but vitz are great little 4x4's, as stated above, non of those niggles you get with the jimny, drives in 2wd or 4wd on or off road, high and low gears in 4x4 mode

sandspider
There only really 2 wheel drive even when locked Do you mean due to the lack of a central diff lock? Or am I missing something?
DannyNCC
Do you mean due to the lack of a central diff lock? Or am I missing something? No Central diff sends power to front and rear But to get true 4x4 you need front and rear diff lock also
