What size dog box

I'm making my dog kennel from bits of scrap we have lying around on site and due to size of some of the bits I'm using, I can't have a separate sleeping area, so I'm going to be putting a sleeping box in the corner of the kennel (9ft by 6ft).

What would be a good size for an English Springer bitch on her own? Does anyone have any designs that are good and warm and draft proof? Photo's would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Chris

My mate built one like this but longer,to make it draught proof you need to put a piece of timber at least a foot high for the dog to jump into bed to keep the draughts out.

It's hard to explain but if you look at this one the dog walks in and the sleeping area would be to the left,I saw someone in here put strips of clear plastic at the entrance to help keep draughts down

The box should have enough room for her to turn and stand, also to get away from the draft of the door way (most fit a step over board to help this). Making it bigger will not help the dog as more space means colder as the heating is mostly supplied by the dogs own body heat

Draught proof it with polystyrene sheets covered with plywood.

I have a polystyrene insulated dog box sat on a pallet in a 6x3 shed for shelter. I'll see if I can find the link to the pics when I was building it.

Brilliant, that look great.

I basically want it is small as possible to keep the dog warm and as draft proof as possible, its seriously windy where we are.

Where do you buy that sandwich poly board? Or did you make that yourself?

I done the same as logo only difference is I layed three courses of brick and put a drain in one corner

Then bolted run to top of bricks

What I found with me was the waste water from cleaning run would go into soil around run and it was getting

Boggy now no problem

Made it up pal. I used the dimensions of his crate which is perfect size for him. It sits inside the shed at 90 to the entrance, which has plastic flaps over, to limit any draughts.

He seems happy with it. :good:

The ground has been made up to concrete base level with decorative stone now although everywhere is boggy at the minute with all the rain we've had.
