kitchrat
Hi Guys.......We are hearing odd bags being shot here and there, but I imagine the bulk of us are thinking there are less Pigeons about now than there have been for a while ,we have got some here but not on the scale you would expect to see around at this of the year. What would be interesting is to know how the Pigeon guides are finding it, there the guys who are doing it for a living. Also if there are any Game Dealers on this site, are they getting more Pigeons in or less at the moment because most of the pigeons shot end up there. If the birds are not in the area when they start drilling all the barley, peas ect it isn't going to make much difference with the numbers we see, never mind someone will come up with an answer im sure of that bit. My game dealer took in 80 birds last week....
anser2
Well thats the end of my Feb roost shooting. Managed the grand total of 4,6 and two blanks. I saw about a dozen pigeons comming into what is normaly a good roost wood , no flocks just singles and the odd pair. In did have a couple of shots , but missed the birds as they came over from behind. Yesterday parked up on a field of clover where 8 pigeons were feeding , none joined them in the hour I watched them. It might even be the end of my pigeon shooting until harvest as still no birds on the grounds I shoot ( 7000 acres ). As yet I have not even got the decoys out of the bag this winter despite a lot of searching for birds.
marsh man
Hi Anser2......At one time I always took about a dozen to start off with, and if I looked a field and didn't think I could replace them I would move on to the next field and set up there and 9 times out of 10 I would do it. Now I have still got the same fields but I now take rubber ones instead of dead ones because getting the same amount now would be nigh on impossible. i still shoot a lot of pigeons but they are made up of much smaller bags. motty
I just thought i'd show a couple of pictures to prove the damage that's being done to the rape fields in my area.
motty
This is just one of a few fields in this particular area where I saw over 1000 birds In total today. I chose the wrong field, and being late in the day I couldn't be bothered to move. Edited March 3, 2014 by motty
anser2
Your are lucky Motty , though I did find 30 on rape just outside my shooting area yesterday and there were 10 on one of my fields two weeks ago. Perhaps now the farmers have been top dressing things might improve.
