kcrabtree
Hello, I have been asked to control rooks and crows on my pigeon concession. Does any one have any tips about how to go about this? Should I lay out a decoy pattern like a pigeon pattern but using crow decoys or do i need to change the presentation? I have been told a bait (dead rabbit) might help. Any ideas gratefully recieved.
Cyrus1988
I just use a random pattern but with a hole in the middle for them to aim at. Always have at least one decoy up on a hedge or tree as a lookout. Got a Primos crow power call too, that really gets them in.
superspark
Crow shooting is extremely good fun. I would say if you want to learn how to do it properly then I suggest you get yourself on u tube and type in George Dig weed & Andy Crow. There you will see crow shooting for yourself at its best. Proudly
Its fine watching Digweed but us lesser mortals might need the birds to come in a little closer lol
superspark
Yer true but gives any new shooter a look on how its done. A little knowledge can go a long long way.
kent
Rooks aint big on carrion (being more seed and insect eaters) but crows are total suckers for a rabbit or dead ewe. Decoys work for both
Konnie
if possible I try to put myself between them ( where they are flighting from ) and my decoys, their eye sight is so sharp and doing it this way I find if your still they look past you rather than see your first movement at the back of your decoys
paddymax123
make sure you have a roof to your hide, before I got this advice the crows were spotting me easily then as soon as I put a roof on it they just took no notice of the hide as long as you have plenty of natural cover on it and KEEP STILL!!!! superspark
I learnt this many years ago. With a roof over your head they cant spot you from above. I had one crow fly over my head about 20 foot up from rear to front, you should of seen the look of fright on its face when I shouted out to it, priceless. For my roof I use four of those washing line extendable poles and a small camo net. some strong elastic bands to hold up the roof poles to my hide poles. Works a real treat. Also helps to keep the hot sun off my head in the summer time.
