Subsonic 12G Load for semi auto

Hi all, new to the forum.

 

I own a Browning B80 with a Hushpower moderator. It functions well with Lyalvale Express pigeon special 30gm cartridges but there's still a loud bang which defeats the point of a moderated shotgun.

 

Hushpower and Hull subsonic 28gm cartridges give a much quieter report but there isn't enough recoil to work the action and I get stoppages.

 

So I've got myself a Lee Loadall II to try and develop a load that's subsonic but with enough oomph to cycle the action.

I'm new to shotgun cartridge reloading but have been doing rifle rounds for some time.

 

I'm hoping that someone can help me with a starting point on this. I'm guessing high brass hulls with a heavy load of No.6 shot to keep it subsonic. But like I said this is new to me and if anyone can give some pointers on where to start.

Seems to me an impossible mission if your auto won’t operate at lower pressures. You need the inertia to operate the action, so that means more recoil required, hence more powder so increasing velocity.

Cant think of anything that will work for you.

Wouldn't worry about the 'Report' , I would be more worried about the damp issue and Hoarding tendencies that you show in your Photobucket pics.

Semis always have an issue with sub sonic or low recoil carts.

 

I'm not at all convinced you will find an answer short of re-designing the semi auto shotgun.

 

I don't reload but perhaps a VERY fast burning powder may help as you need the ooooommmpphhh to operate the semi up front, just a thought, but I don't see this working at all, let alone reliably!

Use 18 grain. AS. I know that load quite well.

Next would be A1 for 36gram lead loads, then tecna for 42gram (both subsonic).

Rough shooter here tested loads. The key is to get it to pop clean in the chamber. Its hard to do. However most factory subs are 65mm that's the smaller cases, reduced volume, to increase pressure, clean up the load and have lower speeds. But that is 1oz, and 32gloads.

 

Now, the AS load, its good. Patterns great. Do yourself a favour too. 4s selected, to give same energy as a 6s at 1500mv at 40yards.

 

I think that should set u up for decent sub's. I can do the daz doorstep challenge with my subbs compared to factory any day.

 

PS,as for 6sto keep it subsonic, the shot fired at 1050 is never ever going to gain speed, once it has left the barrel. Its never going to exceed sound barrier, even slugs won't gain energy..

 

Use 4s. The 12 can handle it.

The claygame cd has a recipe for AS that uses 21grains over 32 grams of shot with a z18 wad. In that vein, if it were me, I would increase Cookoff's dose of powder grain by grain until I found a happy medium that didn't exceed the claygame recipe.

Also bare in mind the "bang" is going to sound much louder to you than it is elsewhere , moderators are to stop the noise from going toward the direction of shot , not to make things quieter for the person on the gun , although obviously it does help with that too.

True but I can shoot the subsonic loads without ear defenders, and having a friend fire it 100m away from me (not at me ) it was still quite loud with supersonic cartridges.

I've had noise complaints before, land isn't suitable for a .22RF and the .410 I had was lacking on crows.
