JDog
Last Thursday I had a morning out on my own on some rape close to home. The flight line is one I know well from a 300 acre wood about a mile away. Birds were using it in earnest. I set up tight to a small spinney, put the rotary out with no other decoys and they came in well for two hours and I picked 36 pigeons. On Friday I took out gpreen and we had a succesful day in the Cotswold sunshine and the report has already been posted about that. On Saturday I headed to an estate which has lots of birds on the rape but when I saw that the Hunt was meeting in the next village and I knew that their main draws would be on the same estate I gave it up as a bad lot. There were 150 mounted followers, 40 car followers, loads on foot, the terrier men on quad bikes and the fencing men in their pick up truck and the hassle was just not worth it. I watched the rugby in the pub and went for a roost shoot in the evening and shot 8, all full of clover and Ivy berries. Today I went to the estate where I should have been yesterday and I took a friend along. There was a weak flight line when we got there which grew stronger so we set up 60m apart and both had rotaries out with patterns designed to get the birds to come into the hole between the patterns. This worked really well and in the bright sunshine we could see pigeons heading our way for some distance, probably over half a mile. The birds came very well for getting on for four hours and when we packed up we picked 147 pigeons. One of the shots shows my hide position. The mist netting on the top is ideal for good visibility. The other shot shows my friend and his springer picking up birds. Edited March 9, 2014 by JDog

pigeon controller
Well done , great result . The hide looks restrictive with the big tree at the one side but the result proves me wrong
motty
Lovely bag. You certainly needn't have worried about where your next good bag was coming from. Me, on the other hand, I've started to forget what a proper bag is supposed to look like. Well done, it was certainly a lovely day for it. JDog
Well done , great result . The hide looks restrictive with the big tree at the one side but the result proves me wrong I had to have the tree there to cut out the strong and bright sun so that I was in the shade. The birds came to the pattern perfectly so I must have done something right for once.
