lap9387
Im set to land on the perm this Saturday for 7:30, set up for 8 and start shooting as soon as I see the birds flying. Is there a "no shooting until after..... o clock" law im unaware of?

carpentermark
On saturdays ill shoot all times whereas sundays ill be a bit more discreet. Sundays i wont shoot till 9am and be finished by 5pm. No laws, just trying not to pee anyone off. fenboy
You can start when you like , I personally refrain from shooting to early if there are houses nearby. I don't know how you can have already have picked a spot for Saturday on the Monday before though !
lap9387
Quite simple. Theres two strong flight lines ive observed that had a constant flow of birds. The point where they cross has a slight downward slope to the left and right. Theres a telegraph line runs through the field where the birds sit. One post is covered in droppings, the rest arnt, the same post is 30 / 40 yards from the crossing of the flight line. so its going to be a hide at the base of the pole, magnet on the point they cross, atop of the two sloping sides. And deeks in the middle of the magnet & hide. if all else fails and it doesnt work. Ill move to wherever the birds seem to be passing. But if I didnt have a spot to go to, it would of been a waste of time picking up the flight lines?

It would be wise to have another look a bit closer to the weekend.

I can't have a look closer to the time as its 300 miles away from where I am, not home until late friday night. im hoping strategically placed bird scarers along the route of a public footpath that passes through the other fields near by will keep things moving. again fenboy, sorry for any confusion over my reply. Might be better off setting up at the next pole mate and shooting them as they're flighting to the pole with the droppings. If they've been using that same pole for a while and all of a sudden theres a big clump of a hide wrapped around the base of it, it might put them off? Also if you're going to roost shoot one of the two woods, put a mate in the other to keep them moving. Good luck.

No Problem , as Motty said I was referring to the fact it would be wise to choose a field nearer the time of shooting , I can understand that would be difficult as you are so far away from the location A change of wind direction or a better food source can be all it takes for flight lines to change. Last year I had a farmer phone me to shoot some spring rape which was "covered " in pigeon , I went for a look intending to shoot it the following day, for once the farmer was not exaggerating and I saw 300 or more come to the field in the half hour I was watching , turned up the following morning expecting a good day and finished up shooting 12 ! , they just did not turn up. I hope it works out better for you.

You do not need to apply for a General licence , but it would be wise to read it and understand it. http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/Images/wml-gl04_tcm6-24149.pdf
