Beretta 692

Guys looking for some guidance.

Have been at this game for about 6 months now and bought a Beretta 686, good gun over all but the “plastic” Xtra wood is starting to bug me so looked at getting this removed etc, also after a lesson was advised to fit a “pad” to lift the comb a bit this has helped, as much as I can tell. But the Xtra wood is still bugging me as too is this “pad”.

So after a trip to the Beretta Gallery, I have now decided that the best solution would be to get a new 692. So I have now got two of these now heading their way to a local dealer one standard, and one with an adjustable comb. I have kind of got my head and hart set on the one with the adjustable comb, but is there any real disadvantage in getting this one over the “standard” stock?

Hiya when you get your 692 I would be interested how you get on with it and what you think as I am on the verge of trading my 682 gold e in for one .cheers

I shall, I will not fib I am really looking forward to getting this. I have to say I did look at getting a 682, and yes the 692 is a LOT more than a second hand 682, every review I have read says it is a nice improvement on the 682 and sod it you only live once

Hey Flashgun...I've just done exactly that.....Well, I actually kept my 682 30" and bought the 692 32" aswell...It's amsing, fits a dream, very similar weight to 682, nice to handle and fits like a glove...I tried the DT11 aswell, yuk, very chunky, but I can't recommend the 692 enough..love it, and I suspect I'll be keeping both in my cabinet for a long time to come!!

I've only been shooting 5 months now, and I Tues I hit 75% Weds 75% and Thurs 68%, so well pleased with it!!

Well, as way of an update.

Looked at the two and tested the two out for "fit". And walked out with the one with the adjustable comb, the interesting thing was the guy in the shop was very much advising not to bother with the adjustable one. But after he had tried them out back to back changed his view of this.

One surprising thing was the one I got has a second bead fitted ???

Will be a long wait till Sunday for its first outing :)

Great to hear you got sorted.

I'm very happy with mine and shooting it well (for me).

Don't know if you'll agree after shooting it but the felt recoil is noticeably less.

Let us know how you get on - and enjoy !

I was considering a dt10 but I think I will go for the 692 , I suffer badly from recoil with the 682 do you notice any difference between the two.

Well, managed a quick wee play today and I am chuffed to bits. :) first 6 clays all hit.

Got to say it was night and day over the old 686. Just felt right.

On the question of recoil, I did feel it was a fair bit softer. I was using the same Blue Dimond 28g loads which I use with the 686. One thing is the 692 comes with 2 recoil pads, I was using the thinner / firmer of the two so if the recoil is an issue you could pop the softer one on.

I felt slightly less recoil using my 692 than my silver pigeon , do you have all the weights in your stock ?

No I have got a 40g weight left, it came with I think 40g x 3 and 20g x 2. And if I place a finger under the hinge pin it dose not move :)

This "balance" is the one thing that struck me in the shop when testing the 686 EVO and the 692 they were both the same weight, but really you would put money if asked that the 692 was weighing less.

Yes they are well balanced :)

If you suffer from recoil badly with a 682e then something is amiss, it could be to do with fit although personally I don't place as much emphasis in this area as most people simply because most modern guns will have broadly sensible dimensions which should be OK for most people and certainly with a little alteration here and there the fit part can only do so much to contribute. The main forces involved are the weight of the gun and the speed and weight of the shells being fired - recoil can be tamed considerably by using the right recoil pads and better still some sort of recoil reducer device.

The 692 is slightly lighter than the 682e so in absolute terms it will kick more, the stories about over bored barrels etc, are nonsense unless they've found a way round Newton's Law of Motion. I suggest getting some advice with your current gun before writing it off on recoil grounds because you'll have to do whatever they suggest to the 692 as well.

All I can say is that mine, with the same cartridges, definitely feels lighter on recoil - or it's a very good placebo effect :hmm:

I read and was told that it's the longer forcing cones (360 or 380mm) that help with felt recoil??

Either way - I'm happy with it. :good:

There is no reason why the 692 shouldn't feel perfectly reasonable and nice to shoot but longer forcing cones and the enlarged barrel diameter can only reduce recoil if it reduces the velocity somewhat, in academic terms it can do nothing, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
