Sco77w
Can I open up a standard 28 or 30 gram cartridge, use the shot to mould slugs and re-assemble them, or should I buy some re-loading gear and build them from scratch? JFTR I have slug on my FAC, I'm just too tight to buy them.

HDAV
No expert on slugs ( what are you using them for) But you would need reciepe data for the load
deershooter
No it doesn't work like this lead shot has fueidity a slug does not it's more like shooting a steel load .Slugs need loading with a slower powder than 28 gram clay loads you need to load them properly search the internet for slug load data Keep it safe you only have one set of eyes Deershooter
Sco77w
No expert on slugs ( what are you using them for) But you would need reciepe data for the load initially for practical shotgun but also for the occasional target slug comps so the loads would mostly be shot under 25metres but the target shooting could be up to 100 yards. I didn't think it would be as simple as X amount of powder for X amount of shot would be the same for an equal amount of lead in a lump. Can see me getting black balled quicker than you can say "shooter ready".

Underdog
Unique does like a magnum primer in most 12g loads! Herco is a good slug powder too. Can you use ball at these comps? A .690 ball mold is quite cheap from Lee, scrap lead and add a little plumbers solder to harden a little (their great mass sometimes makes them obturate to much under acceleration) and a plastic wad that the ball fits in etc etc. Ther e is also a simple slug mold by Lee too! Lord Geordie
For slugs, I wouldn't be hardening the lead! Plain ole scrap lead is fine for slug Just check online for slug data! The LEE slug is designed to be loaded in a standard 70mm shell with a crimp finish! No need for a RTO just a lee loader. There is plenty data floating about on tinternet but I would recommend you use trusted data from the powder comapnies etc and NOT some redneck data via youtube! Yes sorry, was just meaning the ball.....they can obturate to much as soft lead and turn into a short cylinder shape and fly terrible there on in. U. This is a 1989 american book so don't know if all of the components are available. http://s999.photobucket.com/user/Fatfredscat/library/Slug%20loads?sort=3&page=
