steve_b_wales
I had this knife given to me many years ago. It was in a poor state when I received it, and I have cleaned it up as best I could. It would be interesting to find out the history of it. Can anyone shed some light?
malkiserow
Is it UK forces/government issue with those markings ?

It would be interesting to find out the history of it. Can anyone shed some light? It is certain it is forces issue, from the look of it dating back to when Henry the Fat was on the throne. The 1278214 is the part number, it would've also had a class/group in front of that number, i.e. 0102, but that wasn't normally put on the item. Peskyfoxs
I think its a british issue survival knife, I have a copy of one in my collection somewhere, fair lump of steel if it is https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=british+issue+survival+knife&client=firefox-a&hs=2M4&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&channel=np&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=q3ZrU9akB47Y7Ab784AQ&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=
walshie
Almost certain it's British Army issue. I think the JR stands for Joseph or John Rodgers.
tomto
It is a military cold weather survival knife used in Norway. Still in service very good knives I have a couple of them.
steve_b_wales
Thanks for the comments. I would like to find out the year it was made, if possible. Could the numbers 1979 be the year it was made? I'm going to try and clean the blade and maybe put an edge on it. The person who gave me the knife said that she found it in the attic of the house that she bought.

steve_b_wales
I've got quite a few 'old' knives in my shed somewhere. I'll have to dig them out and put photo's of them on here.
