milliesdad
I am a complete novice so please excuse my ignorance . Like most folk I have work/family commitments so can only get out at certain times . I can make time most days but is it worth having at watch for flight lines after 7pm ? Or what time is best ? I have time just not all day every day . is it worth me setting up at 4/5 pm ish ? I got pigeons and corvids on my permish but I'm not really getting under them . harvest should bring good sport but would like to show willing for the farmer before then. ditchman
ive seen pigeons out on the fields at 9 o,clock still feeding in the late summer....4-5 oclock can still be a good time..........it really depends on where you are and what the birds routines are.........reading posts on here from all over the country you begin to work out that two places are never the same....... motty
It is always worth watching what pigeons are doing at any time. It might not be the optimum time at 7pm to look for pigeons and flight lines, but there is no harm in having a look. Lately i've seen some fields without a pigeon on them until after 4pm so it's certainly worth a go. What crops have you got to shoot? fenboy
It can be well worth setting up from 4pm onwards at this time of year if the birds are about then you may be surprised just how quickly you can build a decent bag. Seen quite a few birds over your way , I will be going to horncastle again friday as I have dog training sessions there.
aga man
Keep an eye on the barley and peas in the coming weeks, pigeons will hopefully start showing an interest and as already said a good couple of hours sport can be had from 4/5pm onwards. As for any corvid activity a decoy session at dawn can provide good sport and a good bag for an hour or so before you go to work.
Berettacocker
Gotta snatch what time you can, a dozen pigeon and a couple of crows is a lot better than Emmerdale! At least you'll be on a real farm! Keep the farmer happy and enjoy
Mightymariner
Whereabouts you shooting? Weather is a factor too, late in day often a completely different picture than morning, but you just gotta go when you can!

At the minute I'm getting some nice shooting between 5.30 and 8.00pm on Peas, up until this time the birds don't feed in big numbers. Last year most of my shooting was early evening, the hotter it gets the later they seem to feed. Nothing better after a days work setting up for 2/3 hours
