Hatcher
At the moment we are in the middle of organising our team (Oxford Brookes University Shooting Team) for next semesters shooting (September time). As a member of the committee, we have to try to look for external sponsors as (generally) university funding is generally very limited. Furthermore, this is exacerbated by the fact that some students would much rather spend their student loans on Jager Bombs, than a morning on the clays. However, we are growing in size and are competing on a regular basis (once every month) with other universities. We are also finding that we are getting more and more people who have never shot before as they generally look to join because it is something new and different from your standard rugby, football cricket etc. We find this very rewarding because it is giving those who may not of had the chance to shoot in the past, an opportunity to get involved with the sport and potentially find a new hobby. Our home ground is EJ Churchill, which is a fantastic ground for us and treat us very well so we do get some assistance from them. What i was wondering is, if you guys had any ideas of any companies that might look to sponsor a university team? At the moment, we are at the drawing board stage in terms of getting sponsors, so any thoughts and input would be most welcome! Thanks Hatcher
Big Mat
Hull University is sponsored by Hull Cartridge. I would look at local buisnesses for sponsorship, perhaps big manufacturer to try and get a test gun for the club covered in promotional stickers? Therealchucknorris
Have you tried approaching Just Cartridges? They're local to you and might be open to a bit of a discount on the carts in return for a logo patch on your shooting vests (or similar). Best of luck mate, I was fundraising chairman for a local cricket club and it was tough, especially in the current economic climate. One of the best routes will be for one of your team to badger their parents with own businesses to pony up some cash in return for a plug or two - it's often those with close connections to the club that are open to sponsorship. Hatcher
Thanks for your responses guys. We've looked at getting cartridge sponsors, so I think the option of a patch on our vests is a viable one. We're planning on approaching parents and alumni of the uni over the summer, so fingers crossed something will come from that. farmshooter
Always look for buisnesses that will get something out of shooting, things like oakley glasses, clothing makers but also other agricultual companys, such as jcb things like this, just get a propper letter/email sent out to lots of companies explaining what you want, and what you can offer them, banners at the uni or compotitions etc Basicly give the comapnies an insentive to give you discount/money to buy things and they will sponser you Fs
Cottonseed
How about the alumni who have gone into the City--and possibly shoot themselves? Shake them down!
Kes
Send a letter to George Digweed asking for his advice - I am sure he might arrange something as a one -off with people he knows if you phrase it intriguingly.. I believe he wishes to help the sport in which he has excelled. A note to SACS / BASC / CA and the clay organisations might also produce something. Parental contributions might be stretched currently but an essential start, where they own businesses. A local gunshop, would perhaps consider a limited sponsorship if you use dits name in your club name/ advertised at matches.
bakerboy
Seed, Grain, Feed and Agricultural merchants. Dog Food Companies. Tractor, Mechanical Handling equipment. Move away from the obvious that everyone approaches.

Oxford clay ground often do student type stuff, worth a call too..ej churchills a fantastic ground...what do they do for you? Also think about what you can do for a sponsor........?attracting a number of young into shooting clearly attractive, but lets say you went to just cartridges with a social media campaign to promote sign up student shooters throughout all universities etc would be more appealing than say 8 coat badges and a few thousand discounted cartridges..........do the media cover your shooting competitions?try the big shooting publishers...shooting gazette etc.what do RAU/Harper Adams do?.....atb
