kent
If that was what his plan was (To put me off shooting there in order to avoid another confrontation) than he will have to think up a "Plan B" as his "Plan A" obviously will not have worked! When I spoke to the landowner about it he asked if it meant that I would stop doing the vermin control on his land to shoot - My reply was that I would only stop going there if he told/asked me not to come any more, to which he assured me that was not going to happen. I honestly do expect this "gentleman" to come out and try for "round 2" the next time I am there (Which hopefully will be towards the end of this week - Weather permitting) but this time I will have my pocket camcorder with me and will video/record all that is said by both parties. I reported the "incident" the same evening that it happened and have a log number. The advice I was given then was that next time I go I should phone the local police to let them know that i am going shooting there and give them that log number and advise them that the gentleman might call them and complain about me or try to "force" another confrontation with me (Which I will not avoid but will once again stay calm and polite) so the police are pre-warned about this rather "irrational" person. One thing that i will not stand for is anyone trying to stop me from going about my legal pursuits in any place where the landowner has given me full (Written) permission to do so - Especailly when their arguments are a load of old cods wallop! By the landowners question, sounds like others have possibly been put off in the past. Good for you and your landowner, we should never give in to these people or else they win and get encouraged by success.
STOTTO
People who behave irrationally for no apparent reason in my experience are either; Under the influence of some kind of substance Mentally impaired in some way Or have an ulterior motive/hidden agenda In each of the above cases nothing that you can say or do will have any positive affect, any response from you will only make the situation worse, which may indeed be their objective! When next approached by this individual I should display a small but legible pre-prepared notice that reads, ‘MORON MAGNET’ and retreat gracefully. Richie10
what a load of rubbish I wonder if the farmer would be happy that you aren't clearing the breeding population in the winter rather than shooting the young as they come out from there burrows because the fields are too wet to drive? Many of the places I have cleared rabbits from haven't allowed guns because of the proximity to horses and houses. Whatever works for you guys. DRWC
You should have asked him if he had any rabbits that needed shooting.
Frenchieboy
You should have asked him if he had any rabbits that needed shooting. Should have asked him if he had ant rabbits that needed shooting While he was trying to put his extremely irrational and stupid arguments across to me I could count well over a dozen rabbits on his land within 100 yards of him! As it is I got a call from the farmer who owns the land that I shoot on just as was coming off the bowling green at 9.00 yesterday evening. He said that he had found the earth of the elusive fox that I have been trying to nail and could I arrange to go and see him about it. As where I had been bowling was within a mile and a half from him the wife and I went to see him straight away. The earth turned out to be in a very thick blackthorn hedge with masses of nettles offering plenty of cover on the edge one field that I hadn't bothered to check as it has always had horses in it during the day. When i walked down to look at the exact location of the earth the dog fox had just left to go on his nightly hunting forray and spotted me and started barking to warn the vixen and cubs - unfortunately I didn't have a rifle with me or it would quite likely have been the last time that it ever barked - There are only two cubs (Fairly well developed by all accounts and have been seen by the farmers wife from her bedroom window over the last two or three afternoons and evenings) seen so far but that doesn't mean to say that there aren't more. I have located the only safe shooting position 9About 50 yards from the earth with a dry stone wall for me to hide behind for cover - Just hope that what wind there might be will be in the right direction - Blowing straight into my face) and I am going to have a crack at them this afternoon while they are (hopefully) out playing and sunbathing - Ideally nailing the vixen and "laying her out" first and then the cubs when they come out to see the vixen. With regards to the neighbouring idiot - The farmer has said that if he wants to say anything more about or to me the farmer will be going to see him and having "have a few choice words with that idiot" (His words, not mine) - He did also say that he could always give him a slap in the ear for me, but I had to say that idea might not go down too well with the police!
