Deaf old scrote

I had a call from the Chicken Farmer who's permission I was lucky enough to get last year.

He said that he had cut a hay field yesterday, and had seen a Fox mooching about, and could I go over.

(well you don't say no when they ask do you)

I bought a U caller of of here a couple of weeks ago and have only really played with it, so I decided to give it a proper test tonight. I got there fairly early to see if it would be about , only to find his Son out turning the hay.

Sat and watched for a while and decided where I wanted the caller. About 70 yds from the hedge and about 100 yds from a little tower I'd put up. I've got three towers up now, in different places (love them)

When he had finshed turning, I set the caller up and went up the tower and turned it on Nothing! came back down again to check I had turned it on properly. Went back up . still nothing, thought i'd bought a lemon.

I thought it might be the remote. so tried it in different stages on the way back only to find out it was working fine all along, but it was MY ears not working!!

Howard leights on, on full volume and I could hear it from the tower(old age don't come alone  )

The caller worked a treat. I saw a fox right on dusk about 400 yds away going in the wrong direction. quick blast on the caller got it's attention. caller off to get it inquisitive, it wandered about for a few minutes, looking in the callers direction every now and again, just as it was losing interest caller on again. with its ears pricked took off at 45 degrees to the hedge. Caller off again as I thought I knew where it would show. About 10 mins went by with the odd little quiet call. and sure enough it emerged from the hedge/ditch nearly where I'd expected. It looked small in the scope, Safety off and, thwack, we all know that sound just a split second after you pull the trigger. looked for it for ages because it had gone down in one of the rows of grass and was half covered. I had to find it to show the Farmer another one down.

I found it in the end. no wonder it looked small in the scope, very thin and leggy but strewth didn't it stink (foxy) Paced it back close as I could and it was about 120yds with my homeload 50grn V-Max.

Thanks for reading

Steve

Top write up and photo mate, and looking at the slight trickle of blood excellent bullet placement! An excellent result for you and no doubt a very happy farmer. :good:

I don't use electronic callers but just out of interest (for those who do use electronic callers) which call did you use to bring the fox in?

Frenchieboy, I honestly don't know what call it was! but it was a rodent squeek ,that had been downloaded onto the caller.

There are three different rodent calls on it, and I used all three during the call. I didn't use Hare or Rabbit squeals at all thinking it more likely to be rodents out in the hay. It worked anyway :)
