JDog
Chores all done this morning, Brownie points stored away, day pass issued and I was out of the door by 1:00 and in the field by 1:15. The field was spring rape and a few birds were following a line I had seen the other day when I was nearby. I pushed 50 birds off the field and an equal number out of two oak trees and sat back and watched. One bird returned within 5 minutes and another after 10 so I dived in. The rotary was loaded and fifteen flock-coated decoys were placed and I sat back and waited....and waited, and waited. Not a single bird returned within 40 minutes and I was on the point of packing up when a couple came in which I shot. I have been replaying the afternoon since I returned home and I can say that in the three hours that I was in the hide I saw no more than 45 birds in the sky anywhere in the vicinity. The odd thing is that of those 45 the majority decoyed from a long way off and came into the pattern as if on wires. I shot and picked 25 pigeons and if the more sceptical members of PW are wondering how my shooting could have improved so dramatically of late I can quash any potential rumours by saying that they were very easy birds indeed. motty
I do love the way you play down your shooting ability. I bet you're a very good shot. That sounds like a decent bag, given the amount of birds seen.
Bobba
JDog. As a matter of interest how far up in the Cotswolds are you from Bristol? I ask only because you seem to have some sport but there is nothing my way. I walked two permissions last week in the Alveston / Aust areas and there was nothing but the odd bird. There is barley gently starting to colour but none laid, winter rape ripening and 4ft high beans. But no ******* pigeons. Bob
JDog
This was near Moreton in Marsh. Spring rape and peas have some birds on near here. I have yet to see birds going into barley fields in the vicinity.

JDog
Penelope, how could you? I have spent the two years since I have been on this forum trying to cultivate the impression that I am a keen but ultimately useless amateur at the decoying game and you attempt to blow my cover. It is a good job that no one will believe you.
