Dunkield
Having shot another chest on deer this morning, I seem to getting quite a collection of these now. All 6.5x55 one is possibly Federal the rest are Hornady. "But is it art?"
Mentalmac
I quite enjoy finding bullets and bits of bullets in quarry - I keep them sometimes. Sometimes find tiny little HMR tips whilst cleaning rabbits. The bottom left one looks cool! Edited June 26, 2014 by Mentalmac
Dougy
The bottom left seems to have very uniformed size petals, or whatever you call them. There's certianly a difference with the Federal and the Hornady. What hornady are they

Dougy
Ive just bought a box of Hornady SST's in 6.5,I just wondered if they were those Mr Dunkield. they just happened to be on the shelf in the shop and i liked the colour of the box so i thought i would have a try. Dunkield
I switched from Federal's to Hornady's mainly because a very nice man sold me 200 for €200, the gold boxes were just the icing on the cake B) They are a touch quicker, I never had a problem with Federal's but the Hornady's do seem slightly more effective on anything from fox's to boar - so far @ Imperfection, you look at results like that and think 'that has go to hurt' In the same way I look at those retrieved bullets and imagine that spinning into something at several hundred rpm
Underdog
One has failed in that the core has left the jacket, failed as in they are not supposed to do that, not failed to get the job done. I don't like the top right one, it looks like it is struggling to expand. We do see why the 6.5mm is a great penetrator with those long shanked near 7mm bullets. Every barrel is different mind, I had a Remmy that made varmint bullets of Hornady but the same bullet in a Vanguard performed perfectly! U. Dunkield
Range and therefore energy, hitting bone or not and all those things play a part in the expansion game. I hit a roe a few weeks ago and it didn't even flinch, my mate called it a clean miss, so I shot it again to be on the safe side, this was the exit hole from the first shot
Traztaz
where is the second shot? I only see one hole
Dunkield
It was quartering so it didn't exit It was also 135 yards [off sticks] just sayin'....
activeviii
seams strange your not getting an exit of the roe. the 6.5 pushes though everything. 243 i struggle with but never the 6.5. i have a box of bits just like yours but .5mm smaller.lol. nice we buck there though. just saying.lol.
