Duckman91
I have a 5 gun cabinet but no lockable top box or ammo safe. I will be putting in for FAC soon. is it acceptable to buy another gun cabinet and keep shotguns and section 1 ammo in one cabinet and section 1 rifles in the other? I assume it is but don't want to buy one before I check. the reason is I know one going cheap.
Luckyshot
Yea no problem with that or you could just buy a small safe for your ammo if there is enough room in you current safe for your shotguns and rifles.
mossy835
they dont like it if you keep the rifles and ammo together,
mr smith
What not even if it's shotgun ammo?
Darno
I was told by my local force that a metal lockable money tin will be fine for your ammo if it's in your cabinet!
clakk
get a b n q 2 key safe 20 quid or so n british standard, most feo,s seem to like them.dont get a digital safe ,you tube shows the magic tap gets u in easy as pie atb.
Luckyshot
they dont like it if you keep the rifles and ammo together, 99% of fac owners keep rifles and ammo in the same safe ie safe with lockable top compartment
The Mighty Prawn
If I'm reading the OP right they're suggesting essentially a loophole whereby based on the terms of the SGC and FAC that you could lodge your S1 ammo with your shotguns and keep you S1 guns in their own cabinet so the ammo and guns are in different safes? I'm not sure id want to risk it for no other reason than the FEO might be tempted to view it as smart a s s ery and as much as we hate to admit it we do need to keep them onside generally. Duckman91
Fair enough I think I will buy a small safe for ammo. I was just after a bit more gun space as a small safe costs not a lot less than a second hand cabinet.
Uncle Albert
Use an old ammo box and fit a Hasp and Staple to it for your shotgun shells and a cheap B&Q/Homebase £20.00 2 key home safe for the other ammo. Make sure they are both fixed to the wall or floor in the same way as you cabinet. Simples. Keep them out of the way (not on display to the casual visitor) and preferably not in the same room as your cabinet.
Paul T
It is absolutely fine to keep ammo in a shotgun cabinet and the rifle in another - It is exactly what I do. I explained it all to the FLO when he came out and he just said that it was fine, as long as the ammo wasn't stored in the same compartment as the rifle. Crack on and get another cabinet
Gimlet
Buying a plain safe and a secondary ammo safe is generally cheaper than a safe with an integral locker. And a separate safe usually gives you more ammo space for less money. That's how it worked out for me when I bought a seven gun Brattensound, and I chose a relatively expensive combination Sentry ammo safe for £50.
