steveyg Posted July 25, 2014 Report Share Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) I will start the post with...I have a lot to learn Jdog contacted me yesterday with an offer to shoot over some rape stubble..result Arrived at the field at around 1.45....we watched and waited for an hour before setting up. Two good flightlines in however pigeons were not feeding on our field but flying straight over some high trees into a field behind. We must of seen 40+ birds in a 15 min period..this was a strong flightline We drove round to investigate and they were landing in a rape stubble field behind the treeline,wasn't sure who the field belonged too so went back for a reccy. Jdog said i could set up if I wanted however he wouldn't bother as the birds were not hitting our field at all. Set up and had 5 shots...nought decoyed however the flightline changed and birds were coming over my head in two's and three's by this time Jdog had returned from a shopping trip. "Pack up and hit these birds as they are flighting over"... This became a quality 40 mins of shooting,very challenging shots and you a couple of seconds to get on the bird before they were out of range. Jdog = 14 Me = 2 (my shooting has improved 10 fold since last year...still a long way to go..) I cannot put into words how much of an adrenalin rush this shooting was..absolutely fantastic,waiting to see which gap in the tree's (pictures do not do it justice) the pigeons would fly through..I was on tip toes for 40 mins As I am sure most of you know,Jdog plays down his shooting ability....he has the eye of an eagle and he can shoot... I must be ill. I would rather shoot one of those high birds on a return line than twenty doddlers coming into the decoy pattern. I will predict Jdog will get a decent bag from this field in the next two weeks, as for his other pursuits I have no knowledge or pictures If he is as good in the sack as he is AS shooting....Mrs Dog will be one happy wife...
