Munzy
Hi all, I am off to look at a 110 Defender for my brother-in-law tomorrow, it's a 2010 2.4 TDI with 40k on the clock. I know my way around a car and have done some reading up on Defenders specifically but wondered if any of you guys could point me towards weak points and things to check up on. All comments appreciated! Dom
bluesj
I know some had problems with the front axle hitting the sump causing oil leaks but when or if this was fixed
Markt3815
The engine is a ford transit engine which have lots of egr valve problems just make sure it's smooth on tickover , hpi it , drivers rubber mat wears straight through after 20k unless it's had mats in , clutches are allso a trouble but hard to diagnose condition , they seem to be there one minute and gone the next hope this helps

THE MEK
When you get there keep driving straight past ,give your brother in law a swift backhand slap to bring him to his senses and look for a shogun
countryman
Has your Brother in law had a 4wd before, if so he will be in for a driving shock when he climbs in the 110, basically a Ford van engine with van comforts and no doubt a pretty hefty price tag on it, get him to look at other 4wds of the same price before he commits. Paul223
I'd say given the number of land rovers, mondeos, LDV vans and transits ( plus god knows what else) that are dura torque powered that this engine is mightily reliable! Ensure the vehicle is what it says it is, chassis number, not just the windscreen tag It'll hold better money than any jap rubbish

keg
One of the most tried and trusted engines out. Its a tractor with a body on and as much as i love the refinement of the Disco and the Landcruiser, my 300TDI will do what the other two won't and has not gone wrong since i bought it second hand in 2007

Saffa
Spent 8-10 hours a day in a defender, for 15 years. Driving on tarmac, gravel, off road and serious 4×4. Whilst serving a purpose, def. a long way off from perfect. My honest opinion, unless a true land rover enthusiast, stay away. If you have to check it out, get underneath and check for any play in the prop- and drive shafts. Front tyre rods soft as paper, so check that they still straight. I can go on, but an enthusiast will see it as a project, i see trouble.
