Hen Harrier conservation - Chris Packham

Did anyone else hear Chris Packham when he nearly lost it on Radio 4 this morning, whereas Amanda Anderson of the Moorland Association gave a measured, cool and excellent response. CP was speaking on behalf of the RSPB and seemed to show that the RSPB is loosing it's way like the RSPCA.

The problem is they have hung their hat on the wrong rack on this one. How can you argue with the facts. The last full time grouse keeper leaving the moor co-insided with the last Harrier nest, after many years the grouse are back under proper keepering and guess what so are the grouse. Both the Bowland Nests are on shoots RSPB score nil.

 

If they want a fight over this one it only proves they care little for the conservation of the harrier and this might shed light on their reluctance to sign up recovery plan, following the study and research that proved shooting is not the enemy but land management, predator control and disturbance.

The whole thing is driven by class hatred,to the birdy boys grouse shooting = wealthy people.

Harriers are just an excuse to vent their left wing wrath and the most vocal are PAID agitators who do not

do it for the love of birds.

The most precious species should be the red grouse which has a very small home range limited to an endangered

habitat here in the UK.

 

Would these so called bird lovers care if the grouse were rendered exctinct by raptors ???

I also can never understand how the plight of Capercallie is not taken more seriously, really really on the verge of being a viable breeding population, wil be more HH than caper yet u never hear a squeak form the so called conservationsits

And no matter how much noise the SGA and gamekeepers make about the damage cuased by Pine Martins which like the badger are no longer endangered and are infact quite common in many places and absolutely hammering caper nest's.

Scottish wild cat is the same reckon down to 400 but that may be an over estimate, makes snow leopards and polor bears fairly common but no TV appeals to save the scottish wild cat (who's be fairly easily halted purely by nuetering pet cats!! as that is there biggest problem now cross bredding with domestic moggies)

Totally agree,the protectionist lobby are a very narrow focus group which really exposes them for what they are .
