Catamong
Best deterrent a pack of fully trained guard dogs that have previously been fed on burglars. Then leave door open keys in plain view. Sadly not an option in the UK. Yeah, great idea, and one that you would think would work..? A good friend of mine was burgled a few years back one Saturday evening sometime between 8pm and midnight. He was a FAC holder and the house was fully alarmed with a professionally installed burglar alarm, and a couple of pretty mean dogs running free inside. He and his family got back just after midnight to find both dogs dead, (they had been fed poisoned meat through the letterbox), the house ransacked and both gun safes had simply been jemmied off the wall. The burglars knew what they were doing, they somehow managed to disable the alarm system, none of the neighbours saw or heard anything. Sadly, you need more than a fierce dog to prevent yourself from being burgled. Cat.
loriusgarrulus
No letter box to our house door. Ours is on the wall outside.

In South Africa it is common practice to train dogs not to take food from strangers or from off the floor. Then again, dogs tend to be more than pets there - they are security in a pretty lawless country.
loriusgarrulus
An old policeman told me years ago, that, in his eyes, it was O.K. to shoot a burglar as long as no one found the body. The alternative is to put it in next doors dustbin, then its their problem.

shoot and be safe
This story is proper dodgy, who in their right mind steals a Bmw m4?A hard hairdresser This "story" is a little strange. Having said that, it has originated from Facebook. Does the OP know the victim or is it just one of those pages that pops up and you have to like? Does anybody know of any mention of said crime in any of the press? All said and done, the victim will be lucky to keep his tickets as their security measures were not up to the job.
