Benelli - camo peeling

Afternoon all, does anybody have a customer services number for Benelli UK, assuming one exists? I bought a brand new Supernova in Oct 2011, and despite my meticulous cleaning regime the max-4 coating has rapidly deteriorated.

 

I have used the gun hard on the foreshore, so I expect some dinks and scratches to have appeared. But I was surprised to find the camo is now peeling away in some areas, and a significant score is developing where the foreend runs along the barrel (the foreend is not too loose/tight I should add).

 

The performance always has been, and remains impeccable. But I'm worried that parts of the metalwork on the barrel are now (or soon may be) exposed to the foreshore elements. I took it back to the gunshop last week and they advised it's to go back to Benelli, saying they hadn't seen one do this before. But the last time I sent a gun back to the manufacturer under warranty, it took 4months to get it back!! Not ideal when the fowling season runs 'til February!

 

Has anyone else experienced this, and what (if anything) was the cure? I've attached some photos to show the extent of the damage. It's a shame because the gun really is top drawer

You need GMK they probably won't deal with you direct and you'll need to go through the dealer you bought it from.

Mostly its caused by using normal solvent. I virtually stripped my first SX3 in weeks using my normal cleaning fluid. Got it swapped under warranty and am still on the exchange gun, about 4 yrs of regular vermin shooting and hard regular Wildfowling and its just got an odd wear patch forming now but I only use the browning spray oil and clean the sand / mud off it first with std soapy water

Does anybody know... If it's returned to GMK and they deem it to need repairs, does it go back to Italy for the work, or is it done in the UK?

Good luck with GMK i had a Beretta semi a few years ago with the finish on the action peeling, they did not want to know about it, i all so had a Beretta EELL that went back for reapair to them, when it came back you all most had to put it over you knee to break the gun open it was so stiff.

My Supernova has now had two seasons on the foreshore. The finish has worn around the nose of the comb but other than that it's still solid and doesn't show any of the problems that yours does.

 

Like you, I love the gun but the weak link is me remembering to pump it!

Gmk don't want to know about guns a month or so old so you have know chance with older warranty work

Update: GMK's response... This is general wear and tear. We will make a note of it and return the gun

You could try waxing it with a mixture of beeswax turps to protect from salt.

 

100ml pure turpentine (the real stuff not turp's sub's) 100g beeswax

 

Melt beeswax in a double boiler or pot (cleaned out tin can works well) in a pan of water. (BEWARE HOT TURPENTINE FUMES AND SMOKE FROM OVERHEATED BEESWAX IS EXPLOSIVE SO DON'T OVERHEAT)

 

Heat turpentine in double boiler separatley but don't boil or get it smoking (stay with them).

 

Take off heat when wax is melted mix together and stir thoroughly and allow to cool.

 

Smear librally on all exterior metalwork and woodwork before going into salt marshes.

 

Cleans off with gun cleaner during your normal cleaning. Don't get in the mechanism for exterior use only.
