Decided it is getting close to Turkey Season, and time to make a new call for this season so here is this mornings project.

Cut some nice pieces of 1/4 inch x 2 inch red oak.

Shaping the side board of the sounding box.

Glueing one side on to base.

Attatching the second side.

The ends of the sound chamber.

The sound chamber formed and the paddle cut out.

The finished call with the paddle attatched.

one more.

I chalked it up and played a few runs on it, and am happy to say that it has a very nice deep Old Raspy Hen sound to it. Will have to play it a while now to break it in and find its sweat spots. :D

I was given a diaphragm mouth call some years ago and can't make any authentic sounds with it.

I have done a lot better with the box calls and the aluminium calls, they at least sounded like a turkey (sort of).

My friend Dewey Johnson calls sound more like a turkey, than a turkey. :D

Making your own calls, must be like making your own fishing flies, very satisfying.

Well done NTTF, and I have spotted your newest acquisitions!!

If it is the hood that that you are refering to, Teig was doing his school speech on hawking last week, so I made him a hood jessies, and bells for the demo. I did not have the proper acorn bells so just used a set of large jingle bells for the demo.

Lancs Lad it is a friction call. The lid is covered in chalk and then ran over the sound chamber to produce turkey sounds.
