Country Boy
Pin - Do you mean 'extended' choke tubes? C.B:}
pin
Cat: will give them a try tomorrow, cheers CB: I do, different places seem to call them different things, from what I could tell extended or external means the same thing.. Mungler
What sort of difference do Teagues make over and above say the Optima extended chokes or even the factory free mobil chokes. I just don't get the whole Teague pricing - it's just a tube after all.
Catamong
They claim to throw better patterns due to the more gradual choke constriction, a more even pattern, fewer "flyers" etc. All of this is very difficult to prove, and a hell of a lot depends on what cartridge you use. I use ported extended Rhino's, which I know throw a very tight pattern compared to the standard "short" mobilchoke supplied with my old 682. Also, the porting helps to reduce recoil, but they are a sod to keep clean, and a lot of scorers complain because they get zapped in the face by the side blast, so don't use them if you want to win frends..!! Don't forget, ported chokes are also banned under CPSA rules for use in registered trap shoots, I don't shoot trap, so it doesn't affect me. Cat. Dunkield
Extended chokes also get you an inch nearer those clays don't forget

pin
I think I know what I should to, get one of the teagues and one of the rhinos in say 1/4 and pattern them with some carts, then decide
Catamong
Imp Cylinder (1/4) Rhino is my favourite choke for Sporting Clays, I rarely use anything tighter, except on longish going away stuff. Be wary of test patterning using different choke / cartridge combination, I used to spend hours at it, it can blow your mind and you don't learn much from it, and don't forget, you're only seeing the shot pattern in one dimension on the plate, so all of those "holes" that are worryingly visible don't really exist when a moving clay passes through the pattern. Dunkield
Years ago, (Cat may remember this) a gunfitting school had a moving pattern plate, so you called pull and shot at a mark on the plate as is ran acroos in front of you. I don't know why it didn't catch on, it seems far more usefull tool than a static target.
