ravanelli
Hi all...... Ready to get my first centre fire...............223 calibre Looking at perhaps Tikka T3.......... Have found 2 on web. Both used, choice of varmint or tac. What are your thoughts please? Foxing and occasional long range experiments Any thoughts from all you Tikka aficionados?? Looking to spend approx £1500 PS.......how many rounds can above fire before barrel change? I understand that the tac has been used on the range. Current owner has fired >2000 Ta Rav
malkiserow
Why not go for a new combo?
Alycidon
Buy the one that shoots the tightest groups all things being equal. If you are carrying it far a 14lb rifle will not be fun. Scope wise I dont like Sightron, very tight eye relief, ie your eye needs to be in exactly the right place. Not always easy when using a lamp. Dont like VX3 that much either but prefer them to Sighton. A
robbiep
Don't ignore all the other makes. I spent just under £1k on a Steyr Mannlicher SL in .223, a 1989 gun with it's original S&B (West German) 6*42 scope on it. Double set triggers, beautiful condition. I was up at the range with it last weekend, and with cheapie RWS Geco 55 grn FMJ it was consistently putting 5 rounds in a 1" group at 100 metres. Now, I know I'm not the greatest shot on the planet, I reckon with a better person it would be more like half inch.
Guest stevo
.223 I would want the 1:8 twist however if I was choosing my ideal twist it would be the 1:9 but that's just my preference Edited November 29, 2014 by stevo

Dekers
Those mentioned are both heavy, why do you want/need heavy, how many shots do you think you will need when foxing? I have Tikkas in Lite and Hunter. They work, no need to carry round any more weight than that. Take a look at the CZ 527 Synthetic .223, excellent and relatively inexpensive. Light, 1-9 and very accurate. Edited December 1, 2014 by Dekers
ravanelli
It's just that they appear to look great, and for some reason I was drawn to them. With regards to the foxing this will probably be from a 4x4. Quite fancy doing some target shooting also. If I limit myself to purely shooting foxes the new rifle will get very little use, so am thinking about longer range targets......
