7daysinaweek
Hi guys am out on a shoot beating next couple of days and am going to ask about buying some birds for myself and family for the pot, i know the shoot manager sells on to a local dealer. was wondering what would be a fair price to pay per bird? am looking to buy pheasant, redlegs and duck. any feedback would be greatly appreciated
ayano3
They will be lucky to get £1 a brace at the game dealers. Some shoots let you take a brace at the end of the day.
Paul T
If you're not paid cash for your beating services, I doubt a free brace of birds would be refused. Our beaters get first pick of the bag if they want some
7daysinaweek
thanks ayano, give me an idea what i should be paying around?
Scully
thanks ayano, give me an idea what i should be paying around? I doubt you'll have to pay anything, as others have said. I've never known beaters to pay for a brace of birds at the end of the day.
Okrang
Game dealers are paying 50p each for pheasants at the moment. I bought a dozen off my local keeper on Saturday, he only wanted £6.00 but I gave him a tenner anyway, after all, they were hand-picked! TaxiDriver
So, You pay a shed load of money to go on a pheasant shoot but dont get to take home the birds you shoot ? Or you do/can, But you have to then pay extra for them ? (How much?)
Okrang
As a paying gun, of course you get your choice of birds to take home at the end of the day. Most guns are there for the sport - they might take home a brace or two but many don't bother. As a beater - some shoots offer you a brace at the end of the day, in addition to your pay. Some shoots can't afford pay beaters, but do offer a brace or two. As has already been said, I've never heard of a keeper refusing to give a beater a brace of birds if asked.
