four-wheel-drive
They are lovely things to drive electric everything if it is a diesel then they have merc engines and gearboxes I think that the gearbox can start to play up at about 100k as for the management light I have had one on for years on my XJ unless it is dead cheap I would leave it. The problem that I have found with jeeps is not that they are bad but finding someone who nows about working on them is not simple in this country in the US they are good and the parts are cheap but over here for some strange reason parts seem to double in price. If it needs a new gearbox buying that will not be cheap then it has to be fitted again not cheap.
move-mount-miss
Stuck in 2nd is probably a limp home setting, try driving it by using the stick to change gear. It really needs a diagnostic check. Other than that check heater works as plastic blend flaps break and rear diff is a little weak but can repaired. justindark
hi had thesame problem on a petrol version it was a solidnoid on the gear box . was a easy job for the garage but the part was special order and quite exspensive with the gearbox oil. I now have the diesel version lovely car just had to replace fuel pipes as these are common to fail and the car wont start due to air in the pipe they are £90 a set from merc garage and paid £40 for fitting. walshie
My son had exactly the same on his 2003 2.7 Diesel GC. Needed plugging into a diagnostic to reset something. About £60 if I recall.
seeker
Try the 3 key turns to get any fault codes then check them on one of the GC sites or free apps ... not perfect because it may be a manufacturers code but may work. Its a Merc g-box and engine so many bits available under Mopar and Merc labels with differing prices. With a GC the nets your friend. Good info @ 'ausjeepoffroad/com. justindark
what is the 3 key turns?
stuart21
Turn the key in the ignition on and off 3 times and the codes will appear on the dash. Don't start it, but turn it yo the one before starting. I had a grand Cherokee a few cars ago. I loved it. It was a 4.7 v8 on lpg and it cost me very little to maintain.
