Wookie
It seems that my girlfriend has a knack of shooting at things and hitting them with both rifle and shotguns and this has set me thinking. She enjoys clay pigeon shooting, but my Laurona is way too long for her in the stock and the recoil is a bit to severe for her because of this. I mentioned that to a couple of the guys at the club the other day and one of them suggested that we look into getting a semi auto as some of the recoil is taken up by the gun's internal workings. So, my question is.... What sort of gun should I be looking at getting for her (and me) to use for clay pigeons shooting? Obviously, if it's a semi I can use it for wildfowling or in a hide, making it a more multipurpose purchase, but is what the bloke said true? Also, other recommendations are welcome. shaun4860
Forget the 20's if its an auto then get her a 12......she will cope with ok and its better for wildfowling..... you still cant go past a beretta imo
Poacher
20 o/u for her or a 12 S/A if your feeling selfish and want a slice of the action

Browning
Wookie, I've just gone through the same scenario with Mrs Browning. She's been using my synth AL391 and she loves it. I'm now on the lookout for another semi for her, and I will buy a Beretta 12g with some nice wood. Not quite sure which model, it depends what comes up at the right price. Jonsey
If she’s already shooting your 12g quite happily there’s no reason to buy her a 20g. I shoot a 12g Miroku MK38 30†barrels and it has a magnum kickease pad. I had my gun fitted by Nigel Teague and I don’t suffer recoil problems at all. It was suggested to me that a Miroku would be an ideal gun for me because generally ladies have longer necks and the comb is higher so you’re less likely to hunch over the stock. I’m very happy with it. There are adjustable stocks too. I tried a few guns before buying but found the Miroku to be the most comfortable, I tried a semi-auto and couldn’t really get on with it. Also think about how good she wants to be and how competitive she wants to be. None of the top ladies in the sport shoot a 20g and I only know one lady that shoots a semi auto and that has been a recent change from an O/U. She’s not a Sporting shot though she shoots FITASC. Go and try some out with her and see what she likes and feels comfortable with.
Quickshot
Or just to be different.... a 16 bore, slightly more than a 12 and a 20 but they are just as good as 12 but as light as a 20. QS

Have ended up with a Miroku for the wife (reasons as above), but when went in looking for a gun for me and *** the biy who is now 1" taller than me but only 14, the smith told us we would not get a gun to suit both and advised that with me being of a fuller figure I requires a different fit to my skinny boy. If you want to get her to enjoy shooting with out pain then get a gun fitted to her, and as well as higher combs, and chamfered toe on the stock dont forget a sports bra without the buckes on the front

Wookie
Well, it's taken a bit of a twist. Took the GF out to Fenlands today and had a look at a selection of second hand O/Us (nowt much special in) and the new stuff. Her eyes fell on a Hatsan Escort in camo (not sure if it was mossy oak or wetlands) and she asked to have a feel. It fitted her like a charm. She's now got me looking at Guntrader for one and is very specific that it has to be Mossy Oak. Apparently the black synthetic "looks like a toy gun". I'm not too upset about this because a) it's going on my ticket and I get to use it for decoying when I get land. Hell, I might buy it myself and just let her use it! It needs to have a 26" barrel though, it's just too damned long otherwise. One thing I did say to her was that if she does get it, then she's got to strip it and clean it herself and I will time her on how long it takes her to put it back together. Blindfolded. I'm looking forward to that! The only problem there is that neither of us have shot a Hatsan and I want to have a go with one before I get one, sorry, she needs to have a go with one, otherwise I might be getting something that she doesn't get on with. Does anyone near Cambridge own one that we can come see? Hell, does anyone near Cambridge own one that they are selling? Wookie
