Ferret Master
Hi, It's the Westcountry game fair at Shepton Mallet next weekend on Saturday the 17th and Sunday the 18th of March. Is anyone else going other than me on the forum going? I will be going on the Sunday? There should be a few good shooting things as well as ferrets and dogs. Personally I need a gutting knife and maybe a cartridge bag and a game bag. FM Edited April 9, 2008 by Ferret Master

Dunkield
I will be there on the Saturday, no idea what time etc. We go every year, as by now we are suffering Game Fair withdrawal syndrome SS the traffic hasn't been bad in the past but we are going down a bit later this year so who knows. We come up from the South (A303) so can't comment on the northern approach. IF, big IF it isn't blowing a bloody hooley (it normaly is and it was raining last year as well) the clays are normally quite good. (don't bring Cat with you though, I have actualy won money there in the past!) It is, or at least used to be, Fibre Wad only so you have been warned... Stuart, No danger of me turning up there, wild horses could not get me there, I used to do all of the Game Fairs a few years back, but I simply can't be bothered now, the traffic's a nightmare, entry fees are a rip off, the food is generally awful and so expensive, I don't want to buy double glazing or life insurance and I don't shoot fibre wad loads, so there..!! So the winnings are all yours for the taking, all you've got to do is stay there until 7pm on the Sunday night to pick 'em up. Cat
Dunkield
Luckily they post them out to you. The one day in my 'career' when I shot well was at the WCGF. I turned up with plastic cartridges and had to buy their fibres, so I left all my plastics in their caravan. I shot 46/60 which didn't seem brilliant but felt good as I liked the layout and the wind was gusting at about 40mph. I went to get my cartridges afterwards from round the back of the caravan and asked if I could stick my card in while I was there - they said no join the queue, which was about 20+ people long by this stage. So we did the decent thing and went to the bar instead. Turns out that would have won A Oh well I shared C the following year, so I did get to win money from shooting at some time in my life. Ferret Master
Last 3 years I've been I have never been stuck in traffic. In advance with tickets posted to your door tickets are £7 for adults and £5 for children. FM
Dunkield
i live about 1 hours drive from there, as cat said the traffic will be a nightmare, and the fee is a rip off. I think it is it time to put all this **** to bed . . . As FM said it is 7 quid to get in, SEVEN ENGLISH POUNDS, hardly a lot of money for a whole day out. I have never been stuck in traffic going, or leaving - I have been for the last 5 years. The food isn't expensive, and it fact it is very good as it is the only GF I know with a hall dedicated to food, the serve up wild boar sausages and loads of other good stuff You will however get beer/cider/whatever in plastic glasses, but the prices are about normal. Who knows, if that is what you want, you may even grab a bargain and get cover the cost of your entry. Edit to add: I was reminded last night that as well as having a good day out, I saved £20 on a hat last year so that covered my entry fee and <some> of the beer money
drunkgerbils
Hi I'll be there, not sure which day yet. Any suggestions? I haven't been to a GF for years. Is it worth bringing the kids? Or should I leave them on the playstation? I fancy taking my side by side and having a crack at some clays personally. Cheers
Spaniel
I plan on going down on saturday, hopefully meeting some of the guys at the NOBs tent etc at some point. Dunkield
I will be there Saturday, if it isn't minus 20 outside I will do the clays, as I am not driving this year I can't say what time we will pitch up but it most likely be mid morning. If anyone wants to meet up to do the shoot drop me a PM, there will be a couple of us doing it maybe 3. But I must stress I am not standing out there for an hour and half in the p*ssing rain and force 10 gales like it was last year (yes I know I am a fair weather shooter I don't need to be told )
