Fisherman Mike
I have quite a few feeders in the garden one which contains freeze dried meal worms which I soak in warm water and replace daily. The Robins, Wagtails, Longtailed tits and other insectivores love them.. Delighted and surprised to see this little chap turned up today..snatched a few and was then off in the direction of Toadsmoor woods before I could get the camera.. Not seen one for a good few years as they are getting pretty rare ( only 1000 - 2000 breeding pairs probably ) Hopefully he will come back and if he does I've got the camera set up and waiting. Sadly this is a library picture and he turned up a day too late .

With respect...are you sure they are the lesser and not the greater .... the lesser don't show up very often If you get a confirmed sighting please let the county bird recorder know. Thanks

JDog
I do see them from time to time bouncing in flight. And yes I can tell the difference between this and it's larger cousin.

steve_b_wales
Well you spotted it Mike. Good photo mate. We have them in our garden in work, but I am not allowed to take a camera into the grounds, not even on my mobile. Security etc etc.
fruity
The one and only time I've seen one was in the wood behind my house Sadly it was dead on the floor with no apparent damage/injury to it
Berettacocker
Probably see 1 every year or so, they're only sparrow size, reckon the green woodpeckers have eaten them all, they're everywhere ! When I first read the title: Fisherman Mike / Lesser spotted, I put 2 and 2 together to make 5 , and thought not more Poxy Dogfish!!!! Used to see them quite regular when I was a lad This is quite an interesting article if anyone is interested. http://www.hnhs.org/birds/view_news.php?id=
