Elmer Fudd 1
I'm looking at building my self a semi custom .223 for foxing and am not sure which way to go about it. Im trying to keep this gun as light and compact as possible without losing any accuracy. At the moment I'm looking at building from the mdt lss chassis to keep the weight down http://mdttac.com/lss-chassis-system.html the question is which of these two actions to go for, The tikka has a much smoother action out of the box, barrel is lighter, has a 1:8 twist for heavy pills and the triggers are good. integrated dovetail could benefit since i won't have to buy a rail. but equally I've shot 700s before, i know they work well and are accurate, the heavy profile barrel means i can shoot more before worrying about heat like i would with the tikka when target shooting. what are your opinions on all of this, like i said nothing is set in stone so feel free to give alternative options cheers Fudd

Dekers
You will not go wrong with either but how much original and how much building do you intend? You say you want LIGHT, that isn't a SPS Tactical barrel! You also say Foxing, you don't need a heavy barrel for foxing, how many foxes and how quickly do you think you will shoot them? Target work gets mentioned later, depending on the regularity, volume and level you want to go to then a heavier barrel may be worth it. Put simply, you can't really have a great target rifle and foxing rifle, unless you buy 2 or carry the target rifle around the field on a Fork Lift! Richie092
T3 varmint (MT?) with 510 mm varmint profile barrel in a SSS superlight stock? Seeker what is an SSS superlight stock? I did see 2 lovely stocks at the gunshow yesterday and one of those was very light (Joe West) I recon that with the varmint T3 would be a great combination. seeker
Staffs Synthetic Stocks ... current site is overdue a revamp but some one has posted some good pics on a local Varminting site. Believe they had their stocks at the Shooting Show? ... I have a T3 SV in an SSS and am well pleased with the fit, finish and function. welshwarrior
Personally I'd go Remington but that my preference as I bulid a few. Light weight option MDT is great if it's a hunter Id use a sporter not varmint barrel threaded with a compact AimZonic mod and a DCR trigger. Elmer Fudd 1
I must admit I am starting to move tom wards the tikka over the Remington, in reply to dekers it's going to stay fairly standard due to budget but whichever rifle I go for, modifications would go along the likes of: stock/chassis swap and oversized bolt handle. My old man shoots a remi 700 sps tactical in a grs adjustable hunter stock mag converted by third eye tactical, extended bolt handle and jewell trigger with the aimzonic cyclone mod. Well out of my price range but none the less a bench mark to aim for. (Trigger on a factory rifle is perfectly fine to me)
Elmer Fudd 1
Although I'm still waiting for the ticket to come back I've already gone out and found the rifle, I've gone for a Remington 700sps cut down to 20in re threaded, match crowned and proofed with a 1in12 twist. Custom bolt handle and rifle basix trigger. The whole package sits nicely in a mdt LSS chassis from blackrifle.co.uk an magpul furniture. I'd put up a picture but I'm not too sure how so if anyone would like to see, pm me your email and I'll show you. Thanks for all of the Info and help guys!
