Ron L
When setting up for pigeon hunting, what ratio do you use for heads up versus heads down on your decoys? I was thinking that if all the birds had their heads up, it would look like a flock of pigeons on alert. Thanks. Ron L
taxidermy dave
i normally go for about 75% heads down ,25% heads up, but thats just me! dave
young gun
I place more decoys with heads up at the end of the arms of the pattern as these would tend to be where the more alert birds would be as they would be the ones that have just landed so would be looking about to check its safe before they settle down to feed they are also the more vunerable of the group so they tend to be more alert
krazykayaker
I prefer my birds with there heads down!!
Cranfield
I place all of my ground decoys with their heads down, angling the pegs on the full bodied ones to get this effect. My view is that birds with their heads up are not confidently feeding. Can I prove it makes any difference ?.............................of course not. 30-6
I just stick them in, I don't think it makes that much difference.
bobby t
if the bird is close enough to count howmany of its mates are feeding and how many aren't shoot it! personally i dont think it maters a rough mix will do
Highlander
If anyone can prove things I'd like to hear about it. Some days you can set up a pattern that looks like the dogs danglies until nothing shows and other days you can just chuck decoys out at random and Woody will dive straight in...that's the beauty of pigeon shooting or the frustration!
