Hello i'm new to the forum,i've been an active pigeon shooter for the past 5yrs,however in that time i have never had a red letter day yet!!!!,hopefully this season my dreams will come true,i live in the vale of glamorgan in the village of Llanmaes, the surrounding farming area is all arable, ideal for pigeons, but last winter was very poor in regards to pigeon numbers, there was just nothing around to shoot, not even the oil seed rape got touched, which i thought was very strange,is the pigeon population falling?.Anyway thats enough on me,happy pigeon shooting everyone :good::D;)???

is the pigeon population falling?.

According to the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) The Woodpigeon population in the UK (during the summer months....why this makes a difference I don't know!!) is 2.6 - 3.2 million pairs and rising fast.

Welcome. I wouldn't worry about any 'Red Letter' days as most on here have probably never had one. Just enjoy the days out and if you get lucky well dreams do come true! :good:

color=#6666CC] Don't know where it says that but if the population is as small as that we'd better stop shooting them now 'cause the estmated yearly 'cull' is said to be in the millions

BTO website.....I personally don't think it's accurate probably more like 11 million birds than 6.4 million but if we use their data no-one can say we're making up the numbers.
