kip270
I have ordered my .17hmr Varmint 20", and now have to decide what mod to get, i am thinking about the SAK or the ASE jet-z. SAK is £35 and the ASE is £60. The ASE is heavier so that will add more weight, so come on lets have your thoughts

njc110381
I'm hoping to get a CZ452 16" model when my cert finally arrives. The chap in my local shop sells SAK and Parker Hale, and says it's all personal preference because they're both as good as eachother. I'm going for the PH because it's slimmer
tikkamark
i have a sak surpressor on mine and have no complaints with it.There is still a fair old crack off off the hmr with it surpressed but the surpressor takes away the bang if you know what i mean if there is a bit of wind you would hardly hear it though
njc110381
The sonic crack can't be lost. I heard a .223 with a mod go off at the club, it was the same as a standard .22 round! Well worth buying a good mod I think

Vegeta
I have a T8 on my .223 and there is some difference with and without it you don't need to wear hearing protection with the mod on. Still loud but not even close to the full crack

I will be using a bi-pod on the .17hmr so alot of my shooting will be prone.
RAMMER BURT
i have a sak on my cz.17HMR varmint and i have to say it's not bad for the money £30 quid the parker hale mod has a dendency to rattle after a few rounds though it were the sak mod is machine from a single billot of aluminum then a hollow cover with just 3 grub screws holding the cover on i have changed the grub screws from mild steel to stainless steel because mild steel reacts with the aluminum and i had to drill one of the grubs screws out with a pillar drill to get the thing apart to clean it. AndyCM
ASE UTRA for me, I did have the PH (ok on my .22 but not on the .17), and I did try a couple of others before settling on the ASE. But, I did not try a SAK in the process. Have fun with the new addition Cheers AndyCM

AndyCM
Andy, How do you find the weight?? And what is the finish like. Hi Kip, Weight is the same as PH as far as I can remember, finish is matt black so fine, I have since wrapped some camo tape around mine, but it's not needed. I am pleased with the performance. Cheers AndyCM

Pointer
The ASE is a tad quiter than the SAK, but IMO you cannot beat the SAK for value for money and ease of cleaning. Rgds

What's the deal with the Parker Hale rattling after some use? Sounds like bad news to me, not going to be happy if mine does it! It sounds to me they both (SAK and PH) have some issues with the build quality? The PH rattles (not on seeing as it's supposed to be quiet!) and the SAK has steel grub screws in an aluminium body. Bi metalic corrosion isn't a good thing either! Am I right in saying the PH is steel, or at least you have the choice?
deadeye ive
Kip Let's put this into context .Save £30 and buy a SAK because it's for ear protection nothing more .Even using this small calibre around built up areas will draw attention no matter how much you spend . Instead Buy 3 boxes of ammo or some scope rings ,half a bi-pod ,meal for two even It's your money and IMO there is no difference whatsoever between SAK and ASE ultra having heard the two side by side to-day . I once did toy with the idea of putting a T4 on mine but at £200 got a reality check thank god
kip270
Cheers Ive, The meal for two is out as i am now single (oh well at least i don't have to answer to anyone when i go shooting) Already got the scope & rings Waiting for the bipod to arrive from over the pond And i will buy a few boxes of ammo anyway It's only money, can't take it with you when your gone, and SHE's NOT GETTING IT
Axe
The meal for two is out as i am now single Two meals for one then and a couple of beers. I keep saying that I would buy the ASE if I had to buy again, but in all honesty, Ivery much doubt i would. The Sak is short, light and very good at its job and by far the cheapest. A Sick Old Man
I have a SAK on my .17 HMR and its just as quiet as the ASE, I have an extension placed on the end just to quiten it a bit more. I have wrapped flashing around the SAK to minimise the ping sound that can occur with alloy moderators, then fitted a short length of plastic pipe that has nylon rings fitted inside, it adds very little to the weight, looks bloody ugly but then I do not care. But is very very quiet, when I use it on my .22 its like a Silk worms ****,
