Badgerpig
Hi bought a Seahog 15 Hunter with a 40hp Mariner oil injection outboard which is turning in to a money pit, just replaced the teleflex steering system and had the outboard serviced which cost me £550, took it for a test run in Loch Lomond yesterday and the battery seems to be going flat at drop of a hat, charged it and gone flat again so intend on replacing before taking it to Kyles of Bute next week, the battery thats in it is a "Numax Premium Type 69 68ah 535 amps SAE" could someone please advise if I need this exact type of battery? place in Edinburgh seem to have a good selection varying in price from £30 - £150 upwards, theyve got one for £38 in sale (52% off) Amp Hours (Ah): 60Ah Cold Crancking Amp (CCA): 520CCA this tubs already cost me an arm and a leg so dont want to spend unnecessarily but dont want to cut any corners Thanks

secretagentmole
Best to buy one, I always have a spare charged battery on our boat in case of emergencies. Edited June 14, 2015 by secretagentmole
rodp
The battery you list is slightly smaller but should do the job easily.. The standard battery will cater for starting in the dead of winter, and I doubt you'll be using it in that sort of weather.
Paddy Galore!
that's a whopping great battery, I've just been working on my bike and mine is only a 10ah, seems tiny for a vfr 750 but that's all it needs apparently

thepasty
any battery of around the same rating will do it, once started the engine will be charging the battery and running the electrics.
oliver90owner
The obvious things to check, before replacement are the charging circuits and whether the battery holds charge if disconnected from the system. So first find out if the battery is faulty or whether a new battery will suffer in exactly the same way. Running a lead acid battery to a low state of charge will shorten its life every time you do it. They only have so many full charge/discharge cycles before they are regarded as ready for replacement. Automotive types may only be designed for three hundred cycles.
Paddy Galore!
Thing is Paddy when it is also running your radio, navigation lights, satellite navigation and depth sounder as well as starting the engine, you need a whopping great battery yes but I also had an old bmw r75 that had a flippin huge battery, even my zed thou had a 35ah battery, and won't the alternator run all that extra gear? I thought the battery was just for starting?
Jay_Russell
If the engine isnt running while ur fishing or sunbathing etc, but you keep the cd player, fish finder, vhf etc all running the battery will be required to run it all. secretagentmole
As Jay said, you do not have the engine running all the time, but you will probably have the fish finder on all the time, not to mention the marine band radio.
