Passionforangling
Probably as most do, we bought a variety of toys and chews for our new puppy before he arrived home. He chewed and played with most of them to a certain degree but for the past couple of weeks has discarded them all really for his favourite which is the antler. He spends ages knawing on it. At a shade over 6 months is this because it's rock hard and it's good for his teeth? He particularly likes the sound of it bouncing around on the wooden floor! I wonder if all dogs start to home in on a favourite chew/toy?
WelshAndy
I use one of those Kong things, fill it with dry dog food, soak it in water then freeze it. Keeps my dog happy for hours
fenboy
My Lab is mad about a piece of drain pipe and carrys it constantly around the garden !

Passionforangling
The drain pipe is certainly cheaper than an antler! Probably like kids, I remember mine used to have as much fun at Christmas playing with the boxes their toys came in as they did the actual toys! loriusgarrulus
Most of ours aren't bothered about toys after they got out of the puppy stage apart from the rocking toys that have food treats in them. The only one who still likes nyla bones is Leo the springer.

There is a growing school of thought which says those antler chews are too hard and cause cracked teeth. http://livemobile.web-vet.mobi/site/prospectvet2?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.prospectvet.co.uk%2Fnews%2Fpast-features%2Fa-warning-to-dog-owners-over-fractured-teeth.shtml&utm_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.co.uk%2F#2969 I'm sure there are many dogs who use them without cracking teeth, but just in case you weren't aware of this. Thanks for the heads up on these. I've just had a look through Google and you are right, there is a train of thought that these ( especially ones of inferior quality) can cause problems. I think to be safe I'll take it off him
kent
Stones off the courtyard he has done it from a pup, mind you just about anything it can pick up (bits of 18mm CDX ply at present)! Teenage girls shoes really float his boat though and he thinks I should have them all, yet they don't appeal one bit to me. Whenever my own teenage daughter has a mate round we need them to keep their shoes safe.
fortune
My spaniel has a thing about tennis balls. Every time we go out around the fields and orchards she seems to find a ball that another dog has discarded whilst out on their walks. She is a real salvage expert and it is either tennis balls or bones and chews. I'm not sure why so many items end up lost whilst out on patrol but we have half a bucket full of balls. She retrieves the balls for a while and then losses interest in it and proceeds to destroy it in quick order if not relieved of the ball and end of game. kent
Ha talking "salvage" I usually gain a duck decoy a season that the dog finds washed up or left behind by others etc. Funny because he is totally forbidden to touch mine and doesn't run about or chew them like he might a stick or plastic bottle from the wash line, just picks them and brings them straight back to me
