chris1961
Been to gun shop this morning talking to the owner he informed me that south Yorkshire police are checking criminal records for sgc/fac s they wasn't done properly when tickets were issued so could be a few illegal firearms out there any one else heard ANYTHING they are having to go back at least 5 years so if anyone has applied recently could be a long wait Edited July 9, 2015 by chris1961
Luckyshot
The firearms won't be illegal, they may or may not revoke some people's sgc/fac but the guns are still legally held.
J_Edwards
There was all of the carry-on a while ago when they lost a lot of their information. 2013 possibly? I imagine it's fallout from that.

Funnily enough we were talking about that last night. According to what was said someone shredded most of the records. Hell hath no fury . . . Steel100
Interesting. A new, full member at our club (Rotherham area) just got his FAC initial grant turned around in less than a month and another full member had his initial grant turned around in three days, earlier this year. I'll be putting in for a variation shortly; I just hope that they are as good with that!
Danger-Mouse
I'll be putting in for a variation shortly; I just hope that they are as good with that! My mate just put in for a variation, wanted to change from a .223 to a .243 so he was covered for all species of deer. At first they didn`t want to give him the higher calibre (woman he talked to actually told him to use the .223 on all deer ) so he called in BaSC and it seemed everything was going to be cleared. Received his license back in the post on Saturday, his .223 had been swapped for . . . a .223! License went back in on Monday. Very kindly they`ve said they won`t charge him for the .223 to .223 variation.

Hell hath no fury . . . I might be a bit thick but I thought that the Police had spent multi millions of our hard earned £'s to ensure everything was on a new all singing all dancing computerised National Firearms Register, so where does "shredding" come into it? Similarly the ongoing quote hell hath no fury etc infers the involvement of an unhappy lady, I presume there must be more to that so would you like to share so that it may be understood please? Thanks.

I don't know the exact details. She was sacked apparently but I never heard if prosecuted. It may all be a load of ********.

Thanks. According to what I was told (and as Scully said it may all be bull****) a lady in the dept was involved with someone else higher up in the dept and when her affections were rejected she chose to vent her spleen by shredding a large amount of paper records. Including the registration details of a number of shotguns and their owners. True or not there`s no denying that SY Police made a right royal mess of the records and had to contact 9000 people as a result (Your tax money at work ). I'm looking at getting a variation, but when I called the office to ask about the timeframe, so I could plan my ammo accordingly, she replied "We don't give timescales". Some sources say it might take upto 5 months. I also heard from an inside source that someone in there has been on long-term sick leave. I know it wasn`t exactly quick. In May we were talking about going to some land he has in Scotland but he wanted to sort the variation first. So it`s been at least 6-8 weeks I would say. Mine would be a 1 for 1, so just remove my .22 FAC air, replace with .22LR, and press print. Land doesn't even need to be checked, because I already have .17HMR and .223. Theoretically it could be done in a few minutes. There must be a lot of people put off all over the country because of slow processing times. If it could be done as quickly as a car tax, every man and his dog would be applying for grants and variations, and they would be swamped with work. Keeping it slow puts a lot of people, like myself, off. I think I'll just stock up on ammo and go for it.

But he did hand deliver it to their office. He reckons no more than 3 weeks. He did tell me that they`re down to just two staff in the office though.
