scotslad
My brother used to run a petrol station, when he 1st took it over he was amazed that all the 'car boys' used to use it as it was always slightly dearer fuel. Very little profit in fuel for garages and often some of the fuel cards were selling it at near wot he was buying it at, sometimes lucky to make any money on fuel card sales There is more additives in the 'branded' fuel and u will be right for the majority of cars will get zero extra benefit from it, but higher performance cars will and if ever thee is bad batch of fuel the additives should even it out. Some of the folk in my village will drive specially 30 mle to put cheap supermarket fuel in, be lucky if any saving by time u add in the fuel to get there never mind ur travel time, but some folk are queer and will drive mies if they think they are saving money
timmytree
Did it actually take a whole gallon? My Honda 50 only took about 5 pints. Well I always put enough oil in for a gallon, maybe that's why the bloody thing smoked and sooted up the plug so badly! Still I liked that thing, we were at RAF Wyton, nr Huntingdon that summer, the family came down to Somerset for a holiday with relatives but there wasn't room for me in the car so I rode the blasted moped the whole way in pouring rain. Jeans and wellies, a scabby knee length mac and WW2 despatch riders gauntlets, open face helmet and fighter pilot goggles!
Big Al
Was in Republic of Ireland last week and bought diesel at 1.32 worked out at £1 a litre. Can't remember price of petrol but it was more expensive than diesel? Rich A number of years back ROI hauliers staged a high profile campaign about spiralling diesel prices. The Irish government reduced fuel duty on diesel to help them - although car owners benefited too. There is a lot of laundered fuel (agricultural green or red diesel with chemicals added to remove the dye) about in some areas too though so it is best to buy from a large reputable garage if in ROI.
