well what a beautiful day its been here today :yes: after shooting this morning thrashing everyone and even wearing a shirt with no jumper i was high on life :good::good:

mad myself a massive bacon sausage and egg butty and headed for the garage, first i decided to try sort the front door cards out as then needed cutting to get round the lock as one again they didnt fit, and round the 2 door bolts at the bottom, so a little bit of marking out,cutting and stapling and it looked like "jobs a good un"

well the maiden voyage didnt quite go as i would of liked, pulled out of the gate and very quickly realised i was in low box, so pulled over and tried to to put it in high, dut wouldnt work for some reason, so backed back up the road and back in to the drive, my mate got underneath and sorted it out easily enough, so off we went again, got onto the duel carriage way, first second third all seemed ok but when i put it into 4th it died a little bit, but then picked up a little bit but seemed like it wouldnt rev out, and it started to make a bit of a noise, seemed ok at half throttle though doing around 35 mph, went in to all gears ok, steering was fine, brakes we not that good,, so regarding the engine, something is wrong somewhere, didnt seem to smoke that much whilst driving but think that was just because it was blowing away quickly, as when we stopped or got to a round about it was just as bad as ever, only did 6 mile though :hmm::hmm: come on DD sort me out :good::good:

You should have seen mine smoke before i changed the engine, 40 miles to 1 litre of oil :lol: . A serious word of warning though, dont ever run it on modern fleet oil :no:

as i have said on several occasions......it is or sounds like it is injecting toooo late....the pump needs to be turned back a few mm's...the opposite way to the arrow on the pump....if you have no adjustment left you need to retime the engine to give you another cog tooth ...then return the pump forward and start again.................

its all very well fannying about with the la -di-da-gunner graham stuff....this is what i have been banging on about since it was a rolling chassis..................thatsw when you get it vright and then build up around it.............

.....but oohhhh no......youve got to get yer scrubber out and yer 'ammer and doo-er...and make sparky thingies....and pretend you are leonard bloody da-vinci with yer bloody "banksy" bleedin spray gun....

told yew... :lol::lol::good:

seriously lee ...there isnt a lot wrong with it..

  1. you have new pistons and rings in it
  2. rebuilt injectors
  3. good valves ...all lapped in

the last time i retimed a 2.25litre....was in 1983...even then i cursed and swore at getting the timing chain and all the cogs lined up prior to doing the oil tensioner...the cam gear kept flicking back just as i was ready to tighten everything up......

Landrovers are well known for the timing not to line up exactly....even my one i am one tooth out from the marks on the pump cog...the marks are a rough guide thats why the arrows on mine are so thick.........

if you have no more adjustment on the pump you are going to have to play with the cam cog setting so you can get the adjustment back..........

dont get down in the dumps the damn thing is running so you aint far out.........it would have been a lot easier to do it when it was sitting in the chassis rather than now with all the furniture on.................dont give up and DONT LOOSE YOUR TEMPER........................you are nearly there now...
