Its not worth spending a fortune to possibly find out wildfowling isn't for you ,

The gun you have will be fine ,gamebore mammoth in no1 or bb shot steel would be good to start with for geese and a no3 for ducks .I wouldn't bother with any calls and a cheap jacket and waders of flea bay and you be set .

But remember the foreshore can be a dangerous place so a tide book etc is also a neccesity

Good luck

Hi Allan thanks for your reply yes I understand that but I think I will enjoy in early start and sitting out in remote weather to sometime see nothing doe not bother me just being out in the wilderness is enough enjoyment for me alone duck or two is a bonus

I will be going out with a guide as it a day permit until I join somewhere as I don't have a dog can't join somewhere where not possible to shot without one that why I'm looking to join Chichester as spook to someone who runs it and he said there's place you don't need a dog shame there full this year so will have to stick with day permits

How many cartridges do you take at a time as they are quiet expensive do you take a cartridge bag full ???

If your after geese figure you can only cary a brace or so on 1-3 kill to cartridge that's 9 shells

Out for duck most will call it a day at less than ten dead

A belt full is the most I have taken and shots taken average no more than 4 per flight but it runs from nill to a belt full

Hi Kent thanks for the info on cartridges that very true so a couple of boxes of both will do me for a while then which is good as they don't come cheap

So game bore mammoth no1 for geese wht gram ?

And no3 for duck same what gram thanks

You will be limited to about 36 gram on steel with a 3" chamber .

Eley lightning are very good 3s for duck 1s for geese around £8 for a box of 25

Thanks fenboy

Also does anyone know of any other wildfowling association I could join this year that is within a hour of reading that I could shoot not having a dog

Know it's a long shot but as can only do one permit a month at Chichester as members are full

And just want to say thank you for everyone's time to help 👍

Don't get carried away with load weights most factory steel has too many pellets in it at the cost of speed. Gamebore mammoth 3" no 3 and 42 grm of bb in the 3 1/2" are perhaps the majority choice. I have my own choice but have used the mentioned a lot and they are easy to obtain and kill stuff to an acceptable std

John email BASC for a list of clubs in your area.

What load and size steel Cartridges for duck and geese

As others have said for a 3 inch gun 26gr of steel number 3s for duck and 1s or BB for geese. Gamebore Mammoth, Eley lightning or RC are some of the best shells available , but if you can get them Remingtons or Winchester are good too.

Clothing??? Waders

Your aim should be to keep dry, warm and not noticed by the fowl. Look for a waterproof dull , but not too dark jacket. There are a lot of good camo jackets out there for around £50 or less. Make sure its a little too big to allow extra room for a waist coat or heavy jumper for when it gets cold. A pair of long Johns are not very fashionable , but magic for realy cold weather. As for waders again look on Ebay , but get a size or two larger than your shoe size to allow for thick socks. You may find cheast waders a better option , not so much for wading through deep water , but you will be able to sit down anywhere on the marsh without getting a wet ****. A good pair will cost you £50 , ie Diwa. It will be worth getting a wading stick. A solid hazel staff is ideal , cut from a hedge , failing that a light broom stick will do for starters. A hat is pretty important , one with a peak is ideal on calm days , but a wooly hat is best for windy days as it should not blow off your head.

Calls if needed and what ones

Forget about calls for now , they take time to learn to use properly without anoying other fowlers. It might be worth considering decoys , ask your guide.

Also I have a old berreta al391 urika and can't see any steel marking took it to a gunship and he said will be fine to shoot anything through it he would he said

Make sure its proofed for the cartridges . If in doubt stick to 2 3\4 32 gr shells. They will cost you around £5.50 for 25. The 3 inch are aroubd £3.25 for 10. As for how many , a pocket full will do for most days , but again ask your guide.

Also 1/2 choke or less for steel and my chokes are steel proof

Sounds fine

Anser2.....I think what fenboy was referring to , in your post you had put 26gr and I am sure you meant to put 36gr for duck and geese , and we will leave the 26gr steel for the pigeon shooters .

Yes that is what I was getting at

Incidentaly I have today been given some Fiocchi steel cartridges to try that are 35 gram in a 2 3/4 case.
