Suffolk shooter
Well, this evening saw me and MC shooting together over at Radcliffes ground on the Blackwater Clay Club evening. Layout was three stands, 10 off each and cost £10 for the first round including a box of Cartridges (Eley Olympic Blues in 7's which happen to be my favorite,. Oh and MC gave me his box too ) and £3 for the second round, no cartridges. First I have to say what a wonderfully warm and pleasant evening it was, and so relaxing, company helped of course. First stand was a manual going away followed by a long slowish crosser edge on from right to left. Second stand was supposed to be a sim pair of slow quartering incomers, but due to problems with the electric trap it turned into trailing pair. Third stand was a rabbit going away to the left from the right with an on report high left to right crosser just above the tree tops. First round I managed 18 ex 30 and MC I think got 22 ex 30. Second round we did in reverse and whilst I straighted the rabbit/crosser stand and dropped 3 on stand two I had a mare on the first stand only managing four for 21 ex 30. MC managed to get 23 ex 30 with us both having 17 going into the last. I belive MC said that the other score posted when we went to leave was 24 ex 30, so whilst not the hardest stand the slowness of a couple of the birds caught a few people out. The added bonus was I had my portable coach with me (Well MC drove himself there), and whilst in the main I was doing things ok, that last stand on the second round I kept shooting way over the top, and had my feet completely wrong. So with MC there at least I knew why I was missing. Need to work on that for future weeks. Cheers MC, good night had. SS B)
pin
I shot my little local shoot on Sunday, great people and great atmosphere. Was only 11 of us there but great weather and great company. Not the most testing of shoots it has to be said, did ok though with a 91ex100 - to be honest the birds I dropped were silly - one of them a slow left to right crosser I have no idea what happened, blanked all 5. Catamong
Pin, 91's a good score for a relative newcomer to the sport, keep plugging away and breaking those targets, any practice is good practice. Cat.
MC
What Jamie has failed to mention is that when I had shot the last stand and he said he dropped 9 I replied by saying I had dropped 6. 1 on the first stand, 2 on the second and 4 on the third, which he was quick to tell me was 7 DOH!!! It was a good nights shooting and I still have maintained my average of 75%
Suffolk shooter
MC, Mate I wasn't even going to mention that. After the infamous Lakenheath Debacle on counting mine and Munglers scores, I certainly have no room to talk and what makes it worse is that I do numbers for a living. Still good night though. Jonsey
Just got back from Barbury Shooting School near Swindon, it's a great little place although very expensive £20 for 50 sporting. I don't go very often because of expense and the targets are school targets so not very difficult. I took another lady with me who only been shooting 5 months, but she's going to be a great shot. She's been having lessons but i wanted to see how she was on her own without her instructor. She did great 30 ex 50 and I only had to point out if she was behind or didn't have the right line a couple of times. She was really pleased. I carded 46 ex 50 I use Barbury for concentration more than anything. Also it's the county FITASC next week and I needed to practice gun down. I never shoot gun down so it's a real challenge for me. Anyway great morning, finished with a G&T, what more could you ask
Mungler
Put in another 49/50 at my local shoot today (first round 46/50). It was an easy set up but with a couple of manual traps that are always unpredictable and keep you on your toes. The one I dropped was on the manual trap - a pair of loopers going away. I don't know if it is all in the head but the combination of the cheapy Express cartridges and Teague chokes (cylinder and 1/4) seems to be working extremely well - also losing a stone probably means that the gun fits me again... mind you just another 4 stone to lose before I get down to morbidly obese

MC
Well done Andy, Practice on the first round always helps I shot at Tollesbury this morning and jesus was it hard, I think they new a few of us there were shooting the masters and thought they would keep us on our toes. I shot a half respectable 36/50 high gun was 42. I then went on to a young farmers shoot a little braxted and shot a 42/50, straighted 2 stands and then a 9, 7 and 6. Missed the easy ones going straight away One more practice session tuesday night and then it is darkened room and HHHOOOMMM all the way. I miight show you how to hit that bird from trap one as well Well done on the scores Mungler, MC disappointed in you at Tollesbury. Mind you having shot there, I can see why you drop a couple in amongest those trees, trying to pick it up would be a godsend. SS
Mungler
Martin, Where are you thinking of shooting on Tuesday? There is very little round my neck of the woods mid week or in the evening - otherwise it's a trip to Braintree or Dartford.
Suffolk shooter
Mungler, It is a place called Radcliffes SG, which if you don't know the road is very easy to miss. Simple targets made difficult with the setting sun, but enjoyable none the less. Not sure on cost as we shot the blackwater clay clubs meet there last week. We paid £10 for first round which included a box of cartridges and then £3 for second round. Starts at 6pm if you're up for it. We can arrange to meet up and I or MC can guide you in. MC
It is on the road between Mersea and colchester, I work in tiptree and if you want to come then I can meet you just off the A12 and you can follow me, As long as you can keep up with a Discovery Nearest place likely to have a postcode will be the Langenhoe Lion Pub. It is £10 a round for guests, £7 for members but it costs £25 to join plus a £30 joining fee. So unless you are going to shoot there every week it isn't worth joining. Plus there is a waiting list about as long a 3 arms. SS, Yes I agree not a very good performance at Tollesbury, They had 6 stands this time and one of them Springing teal (Mini's off a manual trap with the spring wound up as much as they could get.) I shot 5 on there. They had a quartering going away up the gap in the trees, that I just couldn't find, and it had to be the one stand where there was 5 pairs, the other stands were 4 pairs. They have got into the habit of throwing Rabbit clays up in the air as flying rabbits, which are breakable but are not easy. And also using battues a lot which means using the force a lot more. pin
50 bird skeet competition at Park Street GC. Put in 23ex25 first round and 23ex25 the second round (silly drops). Oddly enough that was good enough for a shoot off between me and a another lad, shoots for Herts in DTL I think.. On the shoot off missed one on stand 3 and looked like matey was away, I dropped another couple (the pair on 4), by this point matey hadn't missed. He then dropped a silly bird on 5 and it seemed to annoy him, and the wheels came off. Won it 22 v 18 Happy with 68ex75, must try harder
MC
Nice one pin, Lets hope the wheels stay on for friday. I have a new strategy worked out which doesn't involve HHOOMMing or the force. I have a Paul McKenna tape to listen to while asleep and am working on a Positive Mental Attitude.
pin
Spent some time with SS doing some serious work on the rabbits this afternoon - he was mullering them in the end, quatering away, away, crossing etc. I don't think he missed one of the last 20 I threw for him. Cheers for that mate hopefully you've helped me put the nightmare of the "Rabbit" stand to bed Yesterday you shot amazing & to keep your nerve in the shoot off against Brett who is a county shooter was great. As for me, the gun nearly got thrown on the railway Roll on Friday SS
Markio
Skeet @ St Osyth today. 50 practice carts then a scored round of 21ex25. My best so far. Should have been more has i went into a daydream (i really just forgot where i was!) on stand 6 double, rushed and missed the low bird and later missed low 7 by a ridiculous 1 foot above it! Very tired today so that's my excuse for lack of concentration and stupid mistakes. Still my best score so far so i'm happy.

PURPLE SHOULDER. well in the army days with the old LE 303 they used to say pull it to you,r shoulder or it'l hurt. when I coach novices, I tell them to gently bring the gun to the shoulder. If you pull the gun to the shoulder with a force say of 60lb and the gun kicks 60lb. wham 120lb smacking your shoulder treat your gun like you would your girlfriend caress it and let it rest on your shoulder. your scores WILL go up and no bruises.
