ditchman
had a semi sucsessful morning today......pressure tested all the cylinders.....battery i used was rubbish so couldnt get the engine swinging over at the right starting speed........but all the cylinders came in at 300psi + or -....10psi...........it was a bit lower that i would expect but all the cylinders were the same ..which means the valves are all seating proper and the rings and pistons and the bores are working the same as each other.. taking the injectors out and fitting the tester,
ditchman
not doing anymore today as my fingers are so cold..........will set up the injectors with the new nozzles tomorrow and fit them with the new crush and copper washers........ SpringDon
300 is a bit low but 10psi variance is good. However it looks like you did the test with the other cylinders open. When I did this the reading was higher if I left all the glow plugs out compared to doing the test with all the plugs in. (Using a glow plug adapter not the injector one) Never managed to find a recommended reading just that it's got to be less than 70psi variance across cylinders. And more than 220ish otherwise compression ignition doesn't happen.
Paul223
300 is more than good enough on freshly honed bores and new rings, crack on let's hear her!
ditchman
300 is more than good enough on freshly honed bores and new rings, crack on let's hear her! it would be a bit higher if it was direct injection........mine is indirect and squirting oil into the cylinder is not easy as it will get caught up in the precombustion chamber...so the test was done with just slightly oiled bores from assembly....and all the valves were lightly ground in and a pathetic battery....new shells...so everthing is a bit stiff ...... when i start it next week sometime i will use my HD battery off the landy.......oh the other thing ...i was getting quite a bit of power drop because of the lenght of the cable...picking up a short piece of proper battery cable and connector tomorrow........... rodp
Theoretically it should be a minimum of 315psi, yes? So, 300 is excellent on new bores at low revs
ditchman
At last !!!!!!................well i have been an got proper battery cable and i put a little oil down the cylinders last night ...coupled 2 batteries up in parrellel........and whizzed it up with tester on....................30 bar in each pot !! which is roughly 450psi...which is what i was looking for in the first place no or little difference...all smack on 30 bar so now i can close up and get the injectors done and fitted.....have also got the "banjo" bolt for the filter ***'........
