Wasabi
Has anyone got any experience of using the above and if so are they any good? I want a saw for cutting logs about 6 to 8 inch diameter. I don't fancy petrol because of the noise with neighbours nearby. I currently have a plug in electric but fancy more freedom! Are battery chainsaws up to the task or are they a bit of a gimmick?

southeastpete
Yes some battery kit is good, but it will cost. The makita 36v has good reviews, but I'm a makita fan so may be biased
scotslad
I'd imagine to be any good u need to buy a top end 1 which will cost decent money. Constantly logging 6-8" timber will take it out of a saw. On ur other thread it mentions a tree surgeon using 1, i'm sure there great but sometimes when climbing ur don't actually use the saw that much a quick 10 second cut then reposition, cut move etc, but each tree will be different would be intrested to know if they use them for sectioning/choggin down sections Be better of buying a longer extension lead or carrying the logs nearer ur socket and saving a few hundred pounds

Paddy Galore!
there's a 36v Oregon saw in my local ben burgers, it looks quite useful for B&E's, and at 299 for the whole shebang it's not as spendy as the stihl stuff. secretagentmole
Got a cheap Chinese petrol one from one of the DIY stores, works, cuts 6-8 inch longs and branches quite happily, just a bit noisy close up! You will not be using it at night will you? Why worry about the noise?
