Old farrier
My point exactly. There have been many beneficial advances in our sport but a well rounded and consistently sized lead pellet has yet to be improved upon - certainly in what can be termed as economically viable.I doubt it will be and the good news is most of the improvement is for our benefit as shooters although in reality it is mainly a marketing ploy by the manufacturers
motty
If they used copper coating to stop the lead being welded together on firing, copper is a good conductor of heat and the pressures and heat would surly be enough to to burst the coating as it travels up the barrel. If it works then great all shot should be copper plated. Just look at some of the shapes in non toxic pellets and it makes little or no difference to the patterns. Interesting thread and hope some data turns up. The non toxic variants you refer to are all rock hard, meaning no deformation and more uniform and dense patterns. The copper coating is most likely pointless in that instance. Lead benefits from copper or zinc plating to give the pellets a better chance of staying spherical. "Better chance" - and the probability of this working is 1 in 10, 1 in 100 or 1in a 1000 pellets? We need a PW myth busting team lol. ‘

propercartridges
what price is it between lead per ton and copper or nikel shot how much would you like to pay per 1000 to have it put in?? lets see what you think george

Stonepark
Nickel plating is better, been produced for years and works well. Copper plating is not as hard as Nickel and not any great increase in lubrication, over nickel. Interestingly in machining, lead is added to copper for lubrication. Copper wash is a gimmick. Indeed that is the subjective view plating works but can you post a link to factual data that supports that? I was hoping george as a manufacture may be able to post such data, eg same cartridge but with plain lead shot, copper shot and nickel shot and list velocity/pressure and pattern detail - Would be most helpful.
